Page 1 of projection telly broke

we are covered by the currys mastercare plan--and i see it does not cover lamps and judging by the way it went down with colours goin bright and then dark for a few days then the set went completly down and went off--pilot light stays on but the set will not show any pic or sound--is there any way i can make the set a write off there by not havin 2 pay for it to be mended--livin in hope--lol

First thing to pop into my head was the SegaKiller saga from Something Awful.

Very long story short: forums user noticed his neighbours were stealing his cable, so he took advice from other usrs and made a device from a Master System controller to hook up the cable to the *mains* to *blow up the guy`s telly*. It somehow/coincidentally set fire to a neighbouring house though...

These TVs seem to have got really cheap since lcd/plasmas came onto the scene

Why not try ebay for a replacement or even for the bulbs?

The BIG downside to projector systems is the cost of a bulb. It prevents using the system for continious telly, unless your a lottery winner.

I have a Hitachi unit that was £900 three years ago and the bulb is just under £200, it should last 2000 hrs, so I can only use the set to show two or three films a week, to keep the `hours run` down.

If any of you are thinking of buying the cheaper projector units around now, like the Epslon projector at £600, look out for the deal where they give you two or more spare bulbs, cause their worth their weight in gold, and ain`t came down in price much :D
