yep been to El Kantuoi (sp?) went 5 star, but it was brilliant... absolutely fantastic food, weather etc...

if you are of a nervous disposition or female i would suggest the local markets/shops can be a little over powering, the wife was certainly intimidated by their antics... i just told them to sod off!

i went in 2003 after returning from the deserts of Iraq... the wife thought it would be good to visist the Sahara... another b100dy desert... however it was pretty good, even saw Uncle Owens farm from starwars... and had the obligatory camel ride!

if you pm your email address i can send a few photos of the scenery etc, (provided you are on broadband?)

oh yes... only the hotels serve alcohol as its a Muslim state so that may put you off a bit.... for me it wasnt a problem it just meant that there was a lack of th eusual English lagerlout abroad mentality out on th estreets late at night... a bit of a bonus really!

Sorry can`t help you.... But if ever you want to splash out a bit more and spend 24 hours (each way ) on a plane and go down the pacific islands way, I`m your man.

Went quite a few years ago now, it was really good, not the best holiday we have every had but certainly enjoyable.

One strange thing was the hotel we stayed in kept chickens and every couple of days you would notice that some of the chickens were missing. Still the food was good, and seemed very fresh :¦

Another place to look might be Gambia, had a fantastic time there, went in 1998 so might be a bit more expensive now, back then it was cheaper than a fortnight in Spain.

The other bonus for Gambia being that it is mostly Christian so you can still have bacon & sausages for breakfast.

All the best

Ger.

We had a bad experience in Tunisia a few years back, stay at Skanes near Monastir. Place was ok, but the whole family were poorly. Not your average spanish tummy either, I was off work for a fortnight on my return. Seems a fairly common experience judging by the folk I`ve spoken to since.

This may have been a one off but I doubt we`ll go back to find out.

I went in the Summer of `95 in a place called Hamammed (sp?) and like Wad stated I suffered awful deli belly! Just like was stated it wasent your normal dicky tummy it was bordering on a full prolapse! Spoilt the holiday somewhat. Also just like someone mentioned the market place can be over-bearing. The holiday rep suggested that when - and I mean when - you get pestered by the traders you have to say `NO` in a firm voice but this does not do any good , they still pester you and physically try to drag you into their `shops` which are just full of junk anyway!!

To get a good indication of what the place is like just think of Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of The Lost Ark and you get an idea!! I wouldnt totally diss the country off - the weather is boiling - but given the choice I wouldnt go there again!! :/

Cheers for the comments.

I`ve been speaking to a few people about the place and to be honest I`ve heard too many bad reports - it`s putting me off somewhat.

Ah well, back to the drawing board!
