Why didnt Man Utd`s Ronaldo get sent off?? >:-(

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Monday, 27th February 2006, 18:20

Something`s just struck me. Watching Man Utds goals against Wigan in Sundays League Cup Final I noticed Ronaldo took his shirt off straight after he scored. The referee did nothing. Now , last season Everton`s Tim Cahill lifted his shirt over his head and got sent off which caused a stink amongst us Evertonians! While were on the same subject Ryan Giggs took his shirt off a number of seasons ago whilst celebrating his goal against Arsenal in The FA Cup Semi Final and nothing was done about that! :o

If I was to say `its one rule for them and another for us` would I have a case?? >:(

I don`t mean to sound harsh but did you actually watch the game or any game since the new law came into place?

Taking off your shirt is a YELLOW CARD offence, Ronaldo DID receive a yellow card for said `crime` (the only one of the game infact)

Tim Cahill got sent off because he had a yellow card already then he took his shirt off and received a 2nd yellow card

I think the rule is idiotic and has been made by suit and tie bureaucrats at FIFA who have now idea of the feeling a player gets scoring a goal, but on the other side EVERY player knows the rules before they walk out on the pitch so they shouldn`t complain when they get punished

EDIT: When Ryan Giggs revealed his chest carpet to the world against Arsenal the rule didn`t exist then, I think the new law is about 2 years old

Butters, you beat me to it. As a Liverpool fan, it would have been good to tell an Everton fan he was wrong. I also remember Duncan Ferguson swinging his shirt above his head after one goal, years ago (possibly against us or Man U) As long as it`s in front of their own fans, I can`t see a problem. Next they will be telling fans not to celebrate when a goal is scored. Back to Ronaldo, he should get sent off for those ridiculous step overs.

Andy, as already pointed out that was Cahill`s second yellow.

You do know that this rule only came about after Dunc waved his shirt round his head after we beat the Mancs some time back...

You are all right...I stand corrected! I do remember now that Cahill recieved his second yellow card therefore got sent off. But saying the rule only came into effect after Duncan Ferguson waved his shirt above his head....that was 1995 and Ryan Giggs` celebration was 1999!?! :/

Edit :- I also didnt realise that Ronaldo recieved a yellow card. I only saw the goals and not the game!!

I think I read that they don`t want players removing their shirts so as not to offend Muslim viewers (particularing in Eastern countries). Can`t remember where I saw this though, so it could be bobbins.

The reason is indeed that it may cause offence around the world.

Its because most football fans like beer and pies and may get jealous of Ronaldo (even though he is a tw*t)

You watch if Rooney, Viduka or Michael Ricketts take thier shirt off - they won`t get booked. ;)

I thought it was because some players have a white t-shirt underneath with the words "Your Mum", and nobody likes to see that after a goal!
