Is anyone as bored as me of hearing about Avian Flu hyping it`s way across Europe? It`s SARs all over again - hardly anyone`s caught it, you have to breathe in powdered bid s*** to do so and only one person (a nurse IIRC) has caught it from an infected person; all this about "If it mixes with human flu we`re f***ed" but it`s had since 2002 to be doing that in Asia hasn`t it?

We are all doomed.
All the best,
Dr 42%er.
It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
Yep, thoroughly bored. If I was a conspiracy-theorist I would think that "someone", "somewhere" had the idea of instilling fear in us.
Won`t work with me.
Just to liven things up, another report says that you are 176 times more to get murdered in (Blair`s) Britain than you are to win the lottery. :/

Do some of us not have mad cow disease in our brain that will awaken in like ten years, I`am sure I read that a few years ago but its seems to be all but forgoten.
I am incredibly bored of it and just dont understand the hype - something like 60 people out of about 3 BILIION have died from it........ :/
I know its a POTENTIAL pandemic but then so are a host of other diseases......

That`ll be the mad cow disease. :D
Edit: I read a statistic (I know) about frequency of vCJD: studies by Yale and Pittsburgh Universities using autopsies of Alzheimer`s patients shows 13% and 5% had actually died of vCJD.

Hmmm... not quite.
Out of 115(ish) people that have been infected by direct contact, 60 have died. That`s a mortallty rate of 53%. So if it mutates and becomes more infective/virulent and a person is infected, flip a coin & say heads...`cos they have less chance of surviving.
The positive side is that we`re an island and less prone to the ravages of the disease spread- this has been the case throughout history. Add to that, it is diffcult to become infected at the moment. The problem will be if the disease infects something with which it can change it`s own genetic makeup and this will change its infective nature and make it a serious threat to humans.
I wouldn`t worry - there`s nothing anyone can do about this and if it happens, it happens. :¦
