Page 1 of Way-hey - just got Home Highway

Just got Home Highway - although I was used to a 2Mb leased line at work (no more..) it`s pretty good dual bonded at 128K.

Also just got an ISDN router/hub/print server in one, which does Bandwidth on Demand (i.e. uses the 2nd channel when needed), plus handles all the connection automatically - no dial up dialogs, shared internet access, the works! It`s great!

If anyone`s interested, I have a BT Speedway PCI ISDN card up for grabs...

I thought Home Highway was pretty much dead these days :-)

What with:
Cable modems (at higher rates -512k down 128 up and only costing £25 permonth instead of £27 - and ZERO phone cost for Internet access after that [instead of BTs two phone call charge])

Sat Downloads (£15 a month for 512k down and 56 up - cost of local call)

ADSL around the corner[Nice to see BT have now said they can now reach people further away from the exchange - by dropping the speeds back to dual ISDN]

That depends - HH is still a mature stable technology. It`s also available pretty much nationwide, which means the for an awful lot of people who can`t get ADSL or cable, it`s still they`re only choice.

Dunno about Sat, but I`d like to know who does it that cheap.

PS What`s the point of ADSL at the same rate as ISDN ?!?!? Surely just to have an always-on connection ?!

Basically despite what Telewest and BT etc would have you think, HUGE numbers of people cannot get Broadband yet, so are forced to continue paying BT far to much each month for ISDN.

Dead right - I live in a village, too far from the exchange to get ADSL, and NOWHERE NEAR cable, so HH the only choice.
Plus, as I`ve just started working from home, and have had it in as new install, rather than converting the existing line, I have an extra phone line to take calls on during the day, and 128K bandwidth at night.
I agree it`s more expensive as an internet connection than cable, but beggars can`t be choosers..... and the company pays the phone bill....

ADSL - unless you pay well for it, I think you`ll end up sharing that bandwidth with a LOT of people. I have a friend with it, and he says it`s great in the morning, but almost unuseable in the evenings...

re. the ratio aspect your friend refers to adsl as unuseable in the evenings i find this very hard to believe????.

I asked myself the same question when I read the news article in a trade magazine yesterday - BT were saying how great they were for extending the range of ADSL [think they doubled it] but they then explained how they did it - by lowering the data rate.

I got HH and it kicks a lot of other connection types. Sat can have major problems when it comes to bandwith, esp. if you end up with the same problem as many ADSL customers get. All you need is to share bandwith with someone sucking Napster (even now) inside out and your connection is worth less. ISDN offers great service for the price and, best of all, unlike ADSL were not stuck with one ISP!!!! So when Freeserve or BT go pants up we will all be OK!!!!

Problems with my 2mb ADSL have been very rare, despite the fact its with Demon. I haven`t noticed any contention ratio issues even with online games. Recently I could play Counterstrike without any ping spikes whilst watching Big Brother streaming video on the same line. :)
