UK record companies` trade association the BPI is to issue legal proceedings against internet music retailer CD Wow for importing illicitly cut-price CDs and DVDs from south east Asia.


The BPI says it has evidence that CD Wow has broken court undertakings not to import such material.


The BPI originally reached an out of court settlement with CD Wow in January 2004 after similar allegations . The retailer gave undertakings to both the BPI and the High Court that it would only import music legally.


The latest case involves not just CDs, but also a batch of cut-price DVDs of the original 1985 Live Aid concert. The BPI says imports of the illicit cut-price DVDs may have deprived the charity of substantial income.


BPI General Counsel Geoff Taylor added, "Breaking court undertakings at any time is a serious matter, but for CD Wow - which poses as a consumer champion - to deprive the Live Aid charity of money in this way is plain wrong."

Looks to me like typical `lets say they steal from charity / hurt kittens and the public will turn against them and start supporting us and our multi-millionaire musicians and billion dollar record labels` rc[at]p from the BPI. They need a good ass kicking, they really do.

Well done them, I`m sure the charity thing has been keeping them awake at night for a long time :¦ I wonder, as a gesture, & to show their integrity & sincerity if they will make up the estimated missing money from their own meagre profits? I don`t know how these b*****ds sleep.

Thanks for the details.
The LiveAid thing does seem to be an effort to get some moral high ground on this. I bought the DVD from CDWOW - but don`t think I would have paid the UK retail price (haven`t even watched it all yet) - they must have benefitted on at least one sale :/

Surely the charity element of the sale is built in to the price that the retailer pays the distributor at the begining of the sale process not what the item sells for, how could anyone hope to police every single induividual world sale? Does this mean anyone selling this dvd in a "sale" is also commiting the same evil act against the live aid charity, i think NOT!

I got mine cheap through CD WOW last year upon its release too and would never pay the full virgin mega rip off price, better to get somethinbg than nothing of that i`m sure any charity would agree? >:(

What a bunch of c***s. They really don`t do anything to help their public image with s*** like this. Going after the smaller retailers in an attempt to force us to pay the rip off prices in HMV and Virgin. W***ers. To try and claim the moral high ground as well! >:(

BPI are absolute arseholes. They have nothing better to do it seems - they are getting just as bad as the RIAA.

I think everything has already been said! Bunch of money grabbing bastards. >:(
