Mods, posted this here as not sure everyone who owns a PS2 will frequent the games forum.

Sony have recalled power supplies for slim PS2s sold between certain dates, after a few have had problems overheating.
More details here and here

I am not one bit suprised. Maybe its also due to how you stand the unit, horizontal or vertical ?

The origional `fat` PS2 can either sit horzontally or if you fit their stand, it can sit vertically.

Many of these PS2`s failed because the power supplies overheated the units vital components , ONLY in the vertical arrangement.

So all origional PS2 owners, if you want to keep your unit cool and remain working, then stick to horizontal only and ditch the vertical stand.

This recall only affect the new slimline units.

I`ve got the first original fat PS2 sold in kent (up at 5) and I`ve always had it vertical. never had a problem. You can stand the new PS2 vertically, my Brother-in-Law does
