Hi mikeyb...

I don`t know much about timeshares but my sister has 3 (seperate) weeks with RCI.

www.rci.com

She`s been living in USA since 1982 and has had timeshares since at least 1984 ( I went with her to Florida for a week, apartments were fantastic.

She says she can `swap` her weeks for anywhere in the world for the same `colour band`. She has even swapped her weeks to have holidays in Scotland and Wales. I know if I was in the position to be able to afford timeshare then this is the company I`d use. The headteacher at the school I work at also uses them.

Hope this gives you a little bit of help.

Jill

My parents have a timeshare with RCI and love it. They own a week in a resort in Cornwall but have swapped it for weeks in the USA, Caribbean, Kenya and Europe. It`s a great way to get cheap accomodation all over the world and RCI will also help arrange cheap flights, etc. for you.

Cheers,
Nick

Just wanted to add that you don`t have to find your specific requirements and then purchase that timeshare... as far as I know, you purchase your `week` somewhere you can afford and you think other people would like to visit (from abroard especially) whether it`s England, Spain, USA or wherever, and you give notice that you want to swap your week for somewhere else or you use it yourself.

Personally, if I was going to buy a timeshare, I would buy one in UK so that I didn`t have the additional air travel costs if I wanted to stay in UK and use it and then when I knew I could afford the flights I`d look to swap for another country.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi mate,

I own a timeshare in the costa del sol in spain. I love it. The company used to be Barrett but have recently been bought by Macdonalds Hotels. The resort is very close to over a dozen golf courses.

They have apartments that sleep 4, 6 and 8 people. It also has 2 outdoor and 1 Indoor pools. Resort name is Dona-Lola.

Worth a look!

mikeyb...

When you go on to the `register page`, do you tick the `NO` where it says `Are you an RCI member?`

I haven`t tried filling the form in myself and registering (not in a financial position to own a timeshare) so I don`t know if that will work. Good luck though. There`s no harm in ringing them... they`re highly unlikely to be the same as the timeshare touts you get on the beach.
