How do you prepare for watching DVDs ?

clayts (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 6th June 2001, 11:05

I`ve just read Dominic`s fascinating Hardware Review of the LaZy Boy Oasis recliner, and immediately thought - "I want one".

Instead, I make do with a crappy old sofa that`s seen better days, but that has my ass-groove (qv Homer Simpson) embedded in the cushion.

Also because of the shape of my room, I have ensured that my `ass-grooved` seat is dead plumb in the middle of the soundstage so that I get top quality viewing - any visitors get to set anywhere else but my territory.

Surrounding me are : bags of crisps, chocolate (lots), soft drinks (or if it`s a real epic, a 4 pack of beer), remote control to enable me to pause playback and zip into the kitchen for a Feast lolly, fags, oh and an unplugged telephone (essential).

So, where do you guys watch DVD, and more importantly, how do you prepare for the great occasion ?

I like to get in the mood, my missus once caught me in a full blown scuba suit whilst watching Men of Honour !! Preparation is everything when watching a movie, everything must be close at hand, curtains drawn, front and back door bolted and your special cushion nicely nestled into your back !! Lovely

i drop subtle hints at around 10pm to my parents that they must be getting tired now and wouldnt it be great to watch a video in bed for a while?! then when ive disposed of them i lock our kid in the front room so i cant here the beeps and noise from his on-line red alert game, make sure the dogs asleep, switch off the mobile, get a brew (or a beer on a weekend) and some food, lock all doors, switch off the lights and then submerge myself.....

First of all I make sure that the DVD, TV and Dolby Receiver are turned on.
I then make sure that the DVD is in the tray
I then sit down on the `sweet spot` chair.
Press play on the remote.

That`s about it really.

btw, diving suits are available from....

Dammit I wrote all this out and then, and only then, did it tell me I wasnt logged in, so I lost it all. THAT KEEPS HAPPENING! Dammit. Ahem.

Phase 1) Empty and re-fill kettle. Boil. Take one clean mug and add 1.5 teaspoons of instant coffee, and the same again of sugar. Next add about 3/4 of an inch of milk, then fill to the top with boiling water. Voila! Coffee is complete. Then steal as many chocolate biscuits as possible. Visit toilet, and use as neccesarry.

Phase 2) Enter DVD room, my room. Adjust angle of TV and speakers to suit my needs, and my needs only. Close curtains. Close door. If cold, move electric radiator over to my armchiar and turn on.

Phase 3) Turn on TV. Turn on DVD player. Turn on Digitheatre. Turn on Digitheatre decoder. Place required disk in player, and close. Turn off lights. Retreat to armchair.

Phase 4) Sit down. Relax. Drink coffee and slouch if needed then watch the goddamn film!

Phase 5) See `Phase 1`

Aye.

Hiya McBain, do any of these phrases ring a bell:-

"Who`s he/she?"

"It`s a bit slow" (this is 3mins into any film that hasn`t got an explosion, car crash, violent death or raunchy sex scene straight after the opening credits.

"I thought he/she was dead"

"What`s the force?"

"What do you mean he`s gay?"

"What does JFK stand for?"

"Is that the Aluminium Falcon?"

"If that`s R2D2, and he`s C3PO which one`s UB40?"

Keep smiling, Thingfish.
