l got 2 free preview tickets from The Sun for this film tonight. And l thought it was an OK film, nothing special.
To be honest me and my mate found some scenes unintentionally funny. An airplane dog-fight battle where they called themselves "Red Leader", "Red 2" etc over their radio made me laugh as l was expecting someone to say "the force is strong in this one" and "Great shot kid! Don`t get cocky!" and other Star Wars phrases.
Another part where Beckinsale, who is sitting at a hot sunny beach with surfers writing to Afflick, on how rough a deal she has, while hes in England freezing and haggered, writes back after an air raid.
You got to see it, to see the funny side!
lt is too long, the attack on Pearl, is just over midway through, which lS great, but then the story goes on and on a bit.
l am a HUGE fan of Jerry Bruckheimer, and Armageddon is in my top five all time movies, but l wont buy this one on DVD!

"the attack on Pearl, is just over midway through, "
Wasn`t Midway a diffrent Battle altogether? (just kidding!)
Heh!
Historical humour!
Am I the only one coming to the end of my tether with tabloid reviewers? Unless the film is an obscure arthouse film, or has romanian subtitles, it doesn`t seem to be worthy for them.
Time after time I find myself becoming increasingly frustrated with them, and what has finally pushed me over the edge was what seemed to be the universal panning of "Pearl Harbor". It seems that as soon as the film is categorised as "Big Budget Hollywood Blockbuster", the critics give it an instant dislike. I`m pretty damn sure they went into cinema`s wanting to hate it.
Henry Fitzherbert - film critic for the Sunday Express - seems like a strange person for his job, as he doesn`t actually seem to like films. The only review of the film I in fact agreed with was the one featured in Empire magazine. This summed up the film perfectly for me, and I find it a shame that more people won`t get to see this.
Okay, maybe there is melodramatic plotline before the initial action, but lets face it, Titanic managed it, and it didn`t seem to come off any worse for it. In fact, I find Pearl Harbor`s romance storyline far better than Titanic`s, and when it comes to the disaster scene, this is also executed to a higher degree. The special effects are mind blowing.
My major gripe is the amount of people who will be put off by it, purely because of bad reviews. This doesn`t seem fair for a film which should get a much higher accolade, because it offers far more than I come to expect from Hollywood blockbusters. The range emotions displayed by a middle aged lady sat close to myself, showed that this film did have a heart, and wasn`t just a special effects bonanza.
I just ask that for anyone else yet to see it, and stuck in two minds about it, that they should go, and make up there own mind rather than jumping on the `hate bangwagon` circling around the tabloid papers. And for now I`ve decided that I won`t read what the papers have to say because I know I will find a biased review. This film is great, just go and see it, I`m sure you won`t be dissapointed.

RE: l just saw PEARL HARBOR
I was quite looking forward to pearl harbor, then when it got a panning i was not going to bother. I havent seen anything good about this film at all...until i read empire, and the comments on this forum.
So i might go and see it after all.
I`m not really a fan of the blockbuster though, i was hoping pearl harbor was going to be a more straight up realism version of events, rather than the big love story etc summer hit.
Look..
Don`t let Dickheads make your mind up for you!
Go see as many films as you can.
Have your own opinion about a film - I like loads of stuff that others say `sucks`.
All that matters is that you`ve seen it. It is not a waste of money `cos you have to know a bad film to appreciate a good one.
Read reviews with a pinch of salt and remember you can`t agree or disagree until you`ve seen the film.
Don`t be put off by these C-list minor celebs that write for rags. Remember they do it for money, not love.
Just my 4p worth

I saw pearl harbour last week and thought it was below average-i love michael bay movies i have bought his previous movies(criterion where possible)and am a big fan.
The effects were very good but the overall movie was tedious and overstretched-just my opinion !
American,back slapping,uncle sam worshipping nonsense
Jewish fella in a chinese restaurant. Waiter comes over and the Jewish bloke smacks him. "what did you do that for?" asks the waiter. "that is for Pearl harbour." "but I`m Chinese - Pearl harbour was bombed by Japanese!" "Japanese, Chinese - you`re all the same to me!". Then the chinese guy karate chops the Jewish fella. "what was that for?" he asked. "That is for Titanic!" quipped the chinaman. "but the titanic was sunk by an iceberg!" "Iceberg, Goldenberg - you`re all the same to me!"
(Only Pearl Harbour gag I know!)
