Would you like a mobile phone mast near you ?

Campaign group `Mast Sanity` has called into question a row over central government advice which the group says prevents local planning committees all over the country from taking any notice of residents` health concerns.

Areas of concern are the siting of masts in residential areas and near school playgrounds. Possible effects, (though not proven).....headaches, low energy, short term memory loss, and even lukemia.

Mast Sanity described the situation as "unacceptable" and has written to Planning Minister Keith Hill urging him to act.The crisis blew up four years ago when planning guidance was revised in the wake of the first Stewart Report in 2000.

Campaigners said Sir William`s recommendations were misunderstood and the certificate of compliance with international guidelines on emissions known as the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection - which was intended as a minimum safety requirement - was interpreted as the sole criterion for protecting public health.

So would you like a mobile phone mast near you ? do you feel the public are right to be concerned? Do you care?

I wouldn`t want one anywhere near me, until they have decent evidence to prove there is no safety issue.

I dont wanna sound obvious.....but most of us have mobiles...we all want good coverage and good signals...the masts are needed, Its all well and good saying I dont realy want one in my back yard if they are dangerous, but they have to be near someone right?

....as long as its not you...

We have one very near us now and as far as I know none of my neighbours have ever complained of any of the " possible effects "
First it was electric pylons that were supposedly causing illnesses now they are forgotten ( or suddenly safe ? ;) ) as it`s now all out against mobile masts , what will it be in a few years time ? killer remote controls ?
Wish they would stick a Vodafone mast near me as well because the signal is s*** inside my house.

Couldn`t care less about having one next to me from `health` concerns. Obviously, i wouldn`t want the visual impact of having one in the garden though! In fact there is one in the car park at work, and it doesn`t bother me.

The trouble is you can`t prove a negative, so nobody can ever prove that they are not harmful. Personally i don`t believe there is any evidence that they are :o

I read/heard a local primary school was benefitting to the tune of £10K a year just to have one in it`s ample grounds.
That`s not to be sniffed at.

A friend of mine checks appliances for levels of emission before they are certificated.
He said microwaves are one of the worst especially if the seals aren`t 100% and would not recommend a pregnant mother to stand directly in front of one anyway. He doesn`t have a mobile phone as he says they all fall in accepted limits but these are set too high and only five minutes of use warms up a fair part of that side of the head.
You can live happy though that when he tested the police handheld speed guns these emit a huge amount and there are strict guidelines to handling them.Put it this way cops resting one on their lap before they point it at you is a strict no no in the family sense.
When he worked on radar systems in the RAF when running a radar upto full power nobody was allowed to stand in front of the dish as the waves coming out of it were so powerful and would mess up your insides big style.
Now assuming a transmitter is the equivalent of a very powerful phone you can also assume the signal is vastly more powerful.
So to cap it all there are too many unknowns and possible known but withheld problems, because of financial gain for the phone companies and government income from the licencing.
:/
