Anyone know how best to deal with a difficult boss?

Doc_AMH (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 22nd October 2004, 17:42

Need some help guys..

The boss that I am currently working for a complete a**hole. He expects me to do everything for him, and then complains when I haven`t done things his way. I just feel like punching him in the face!

Can anyone suggest a tactful approach to deal with his attitude?

Tricky situation :/
Maybe look for another job or have a chat with your personel dept (Could make the situation worse though)

Are you in a union? If so, have a word with your rep, that`s what you pay them for!

Don`t think of yourself as an ugly person. Think of yourself as a beautiful monkey!

Check to see whether your company operates a bullying and harrassment policy - if they don`t, they should. You should, as the above poster says, seek union assistance.

Start keeping a detailed record of all the adverse treatment you receive - hearsay is not strong enough evidence. If possible, gather witness statements as events occur - the more evidence you have, the better. You may find you are not alone in feeling threatened by your boss, and some of your colleagues will be genuinely relieved that you are taking positive steps to tackle the problem.

Failing that, bang in a grievance against him or if worst comes to the worst, (don`t laugh) you can actually call the police !!! It has been done before, and it soon made the person stop bullying people....It`s a real last resort though, if your boss` boss does nothing about it.

Don`t do that trust me I was on the phone to my boss earlier who is also a complete a**hole and I told him I felt like going into work to beat the s*** out of him, all fine in the heat of the moment but now on reflection not the best of things to say to him and I will no doubt be called up to a disciplinary meeting .

Oh well it`s done now but don`t make the same mistake just try and get out .
