Lack of patience

I`m sitting here twiddling my thumbs and getting annoyed because I`m doing a restore of my phone. It`s going to take all of 5 minutes.

Yet when I was younger I`d happily load games from tape which took 45 minutes +. You`d start it loading, wander off and have your dinner and it still hadn`t finished.

I blame the government ;)

Oh for the days of the tape loading , and the inevitable crash at the end after waiting 30 mins....and we still went and tried to load it all over again...
Where did our patience go i wonder...
Maybe we are just spoiled nowadays and want everything ...NOW NOW NOW... :/

Sodding thing still hasn`t finished.

The other thing with tapes was the fun you had adusting the volume etc so that the tape would load in the first place. Then some idiot in your family would come in and turn the volume down because it was making a noise... >:(

Anyone remember recording a computer programme being played out by BBC`s Tomorrows World? They played a bip bip, we recorded it onto a tape and loaded it into our oh so powerful Acron Atom PC!! Those were the days!!

What about typing in programs from computer magazines? I spent ages typing in a game from Sinclair User into my Spectrum and when I`d finished it didn`t sodding well work.

Ah yes typing them in, I remember it well!

There was a great one on the zx81 that was in a magazine, where you dug down into the ground to pick up jewels (well okay asterix) and you had to get out before the water flooded the tunnels.

Spent several hours and got sore fingers typing a program in on my ZX-81. Was so pleased to have completed it and so anxious to try it that I decided to run the program before saving it to tape.

I needent tell you that the first thing that happened on typing "RUN" was that the bloody machine rebooted.

A good lesson, I spose!

I remember drawing a picture of a helicopter with a simple prog i wrote on the zx spectrum. It was like using an etch a sketch. I was so chuffed with it and the way it drew it while it loaded from the tape was BRILLIANT.... hmmm. well it was honest. :/
Just like the pictures from the games.... :o
Just think we sat through those pictures loading and they didnt even need to be loaded at all really, would have saved more time ... >:(
