Tickets on eBay

Is it legal to sell in-demand tickets on eBay?

Obviously there are cases where people have bought one extra and their friend can`t go etc, which would make selling on the extra one fair enough.

But there are people on eBay who are clearly making a living out of buying a large stock of tickets for gigs that will sell out quickly, then selling them on - ripping off fans by charging them double the prices.

It`s essentially ticket touting which as far as I`m aware is totally illegal.

How do people such as this, this and this get away with it?

well there is a category for tickets so it should be allowed unless ebay are totally stupid and offer categories for products that they dont allow. What actually determines in-demand is the real question. How can ebay say that something is in demand and another thing isnt? Yeah it is touting but it is also an auction. Unfortunately that is the way the world runs. Retailers practically do the same thing if you think about it, they buy something cheap from the manufacturer and we pay them an inflated price for the same product. What the companies selling the tickets should do is limit the amount of tickets available to the person, say a person can order a maximum of four at a time. That is really enough for a normal family.

What the hell is this? how can someone pay that much just for 2 tickets to a football match?
They have a sneaky way of getting around this. Most of the arsenal vs charlton tickets state that you are bidding for an envelope containing 2 free arsenal vs charlton tickets. Some cheek.

I wonder what the ebay fee is for this :)

You think that is expensive, £350 for 1 seat at the Arsenal Vs Man U game!!

I stumbled across this site looking for festival tickets and noticed the prices were on average 80% inflated. How much should those footie tickets be really?

The arsenal tickets are normally 30-50 quid but demand is high and supply is low cos arsenal stadium is limited, so the touts can make ££££. Their new stadium should stop these touts.

I was always against the inflated ticket prices on ebay since it is clear touting, however, I have just been lumbered with an extra ticket for a concert that I cannot claim the money back on so am glad of havinh the opportunity to sell it on for at least my money back.

PS: I thought ebay were going to crack down on tickets after the glastonbury fiasco?

Ticket touts = scum of the earth. Checkout
http://www.scarletmist.co.uk/default.asp. It put buyers and sellers of tickets in touch with one another but insists all tickets are exchanged for at face value.

I agree Rocky. It`s amazing how quick tickets sell out for shows etc because of all the tw >:( ts that buy them up so the real fans can`t buy tickets. I once saw one guy on ebay with over 100 chilli pepper tickets for their last tour. Must be an insider because how could you get so many to start with?

I think in some states in America it is illegal to sell tickets higher than a capped price (original price plus 3% or something like that). They should bring that in here.

It has happened over here with the Chilli peppers tickets for thier summer gigs - face value £40, they were on ebay selling for £150/pair BEFORE they even went on general sale (some of us were able to get in early ;) ) Its mad. That said, as i keep getting told we live in a free market economy - as long as people will pay £350 for an Arsenal vs Man Utd ticket, then people will sell them. If there was no demand, then the touts would dissappear, but the demand is there, so they will sell them.. as long as they are real tickets, and you will actualy get in with it then good luck to `em. I mean i bought 6 tickets to the chillis, £240 worth, for myself and friends. If someone offered me £750 for `em i would sell, and we could all have a cracking weekend for that......

oh my god, it`s huge (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 25th February 2004, 12:11

I stumped up the cash for Eddie Izzard tickets once - £80 for £25 face value.

I don`t often go to such things and knew no better then, but I have signed up on his website and they email the `members` with pre-released tickets 14 days before ticketmaster`s general release. Hey presto, no more ticket touts. And they are always the best seats too.

I`m sure others will do the same - worth checking out if you hear of something in advance of its general release.

Don`t assume it`s legal if it`s on Ebay. I keep telling them about pirated stuff and they do nothing about it. There are DVDs of The Return of the King on there as I write. Ebay know about it and do nothing.
