Page 1 of The infinate dog paradox

A thought that popped into my mind at work a few days ago
(I work shifts and my mind tends to wander at 2.00AM with the help of Methyl Ethyl Ketone which I enjoy sniffing at work)
If there was an infinate number of dogs in the universe and each of those dogs had 4 legs how many dogs legs would there be
The number of dogs legs should be the number of dogs times 4 but if there was an infinate amount of dogs the amount of dogs legs would be Infinity * 4 but you cant get more than infinity

RE: The infinate dog paradox
you think too much
That`s infinitely profound. :/

GW6UFO is QRT at the moment
When I used to work with MEK it never had that effect on me...just made me dizzy!
:p
RE: The infinate dog paradox
Aaahh, this is where the human mind shows it`s limitations.
Who is to say that infinity is the biggest/most etc. After all
it`s only a word.
Ste.
ps I haven`t been on that MEK stuff :D
Infinite means a never ending as far as I`m concerned - rather than a physical number.
Therefore there`s a never ending number of dogs, with a never ending number of legs.
You can clean out the kennels :D
You call that a paradox?
How about that Floating Sausage with a Beard that shoots lightning bolts out of it`s eyes?
Quick, call the eggman :D ;)

Small world innit ? her sister Ethyl Methyl Ketone lives in No.23 down the road from me but I wouldn`t recommend sniffing her :o

RE: The infinate dog paradox
You can`t have an infinite number of dogs, because by definition infinite means in-finite. Once you count the number of dogs, or their legs, you have a number that`s finite and thus cannot be infinite. Didn`t I?

RE: The infinate dog paradox
"Infinite means a never ending"
Now infinity could mean going `on to` infinity or `going round in circles` like a Mobious strip.
This is why mathematicians are so ingenous, they can come up with the definate or the abstract to try and solve a solution, Only mathematians could come up with the square root of minus one, which is an imaginary number, yet it used to solve mathematical and engineering solutions.
Though Mathmaticians are Brilliant in their field, it comes down to the engineer to change the thoretical into the pratical. So maybe its an Engineer that may solve the infinate dog paradox one day.
When I first went to University I was first taught a simple story giving the definintion between a Mathematicain and an Engineer.
There is a beutifull naked Blonde at one side of the room and a Mathematican and an Engineer at the other, the blonde say "the first man to me will be my boyfriend, but you may only take one large step and ever other must be half the distance of the next step"
The Mathematician does not even try as he has computed the imposibillity of the task.
The Engineer moves one large step fowards, then every other smaller step he says `getting closer`.
Here endeth the lesson on the Human brain verses a paradox. There is always a solution, even if it is only 95% solved. Merry Xmas.
