Essential Playground rituals and games...
...at my secondary school (1983-89) it was traditional to "post" someone on their birthday.
This entailed several people (2 or 3 holding each leg, the same on each arm) lifting you off the ground and running at speed towards any handy post (if thick circular railing posts were not available then the square metal 3"x3" posts of the basketball courts usually sufficed). Your legs would be aimed either side of the post and the resulting impact was a source of considerable discomfort :o :o , to put it mildy.
This activity was obviously quickly banned but it never really went away.
Ah memories! :D

RE: Essential Playground rituals...
We used to do `Scrambles` where someone would lob a penny onto the playground and everyone would basically kick the crap out of each other just to get the penny..

We had something similar to "scrambles" but they were called "scav matches" ("scav" being short for scavenger). The usual prize was a football collecting card, though.
They were eventually officially banned as they ended up getting just that bit too violent, although unlicensed, "underground" scav matches remained popular, at least until I left primary school...

Oh yes.....people used to do that with their marbles when they were all the craze (usually the posh kids whose parents could afford to buy them new sets of marbles every week!)

"PILE ON"
If you heard that you ran like s*** or risked been on the bottom of a pile of 15 to 20 lads. That hurt.
All the best,
The 42%er.

`Slapcocks` - self explanatory. I can still feel the stomach cramps to this day.

RE: Essential Playground rituals...
We used to do Posting as you call it, only we called it Polling, and it invovled a telegraph pole in the playground.
It was quickly banned there too. :)

"Pile On" was called "Bundle" (or should I say "BUNDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!") at our school. Definitely one to be avoided!!! :D

"British Bulldog" only played on grass, otherwise you would get ripped trousers everyday. The one team had to run acrossto the otherside, the person in the middle has to floor anyone to make them join his team until there is no-one left. Any sort of tackle is legal, you just have to bring them to the ground by any means.

British Bulldog - YES!
What about `Penny Up` - did anyone play that? You had to get your coin as near to the wall as possible from a set line 6-10ft away - whoever was nearer won the other player`s coin. We used to play for 20p`s mostly and if you were any good you could quickly become one or two pounds `up`. Sometimes stakes were a 50p and very rarely £1 (and then it was best out of 3). The best shot you could make was resting the coin against the wall - the only way of beating this shot was by actually hitting the other coin.
