BBC may not be showing 24 series 3

PAULH (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 25th September 2003, 21:28

The BBC may not win the rights to broadcast the third season of 24 following its decision to broadcast unencrypted via digital satellite.

I hope this is true as the BBC shafted most viewers on a regular basis by holding back episodes so it could show "international snail racing" or someother third rate event. If 24 appeared on Sky or E4 then I could live with the adverts as I would know they would show the whole series at the same time every week. They would probably show it sooner than the BBC to.....

GOD NO!!!! This can`t be true. Yet another example of why I resort to downloading episodes of my favourite shows from DELETED BY MODERATOR, like Season 2 of Alias and soon Season 5 of The West Wing. I`d never be able to watch it with adverts, and besides, Sky shafted season 2 of Alias half way through this year. Bastards!!!!

and as i remember the only reason they put back episodes of 24 on he bbbc was because of a programme about something happening in iraq. think i will let them off for that one. adverts will ruin the programme completly

I could be wrong, but didn`t the snooker hold it up for a week, or something similarly missable?

Yes, that rings a bell. However, for those of us who elect not to have satellite (except freeview in our case), then this would be a disaster. Adverts would ruin it, but if it`s on Sky/E4 then we won`t see it at all...

To be honest I`m quite content to wait for the DVD release so that I can watch watch them when I want. I did this with the second series and enjoyed it far more than having to wait a week between episodes.

I suppose the BBC will be redistribute the licence fee into producing yet another period drama or another spin off of casualty.

Perhaps someone can tell me why the German (& other) channels have been broadcasting in the clear for many years now. Football, films & so on.

Arg, 24 with adverts, that would totally destroy the pace.
