Page 1 of Indiana Jones on BBC
General Forum
Just to let you know, BBC are showing the Indiana Jones movies again. Raiders on today at 6.10pm, BBC1. Didn`t have a DVD Recorder when they showed them in January 2002 so I can get them now - they`ll do until the official November release.
Does anyone know if they`re showing Last Crusade? Temple of Doom is on next Sunday, not sure Last Crusade is on the following week. Digiguide has a TBA slot on that date, nothing on Radio Times website.

you sure you want to burn the edited for-tv version? you just know it`s gonna be cut to buggery, plus the P&S on these films are abysmal...
I won`t be watching any Indy till Nov 4
Ok, you people! Sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we`re not back by dawn... call the president.

Too true.
And I`ll have to import the R4 or R1 version if the BBFC have still cut Temple Of Doom.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is ;-)
What did they cut from the second film?
On the subject of cuts, I`m pleased to say I was wrong in my previous comment, it appears that the BBC has shown the film with all the corpses, all the `S***s`, all the blood and all the Karen Allen in a see-thru nightie.
One thing they DID cut out however, was the Ark burning the swastika off the side of the crate. Anyone care to hazard a guess why? I`ve got a feeling I know, but I`ll see if someone else can verify my suspicions. Oh, and it`s not for fear of insulting neo-nazis (who, of course, should be insulted at every available opportunity)
"What did they cut from the second film?"
Pretty much the WHOLE ripping out the heart scene. I think if it wasn`t cut, then the BBFC would have to give it an 18. No joke!
The scene however is completely destroyed. They look like fakers, but in the uncut version you get to see the hand go into the chest and pull out the heart and then the wound heal back up. Then the guy is burned in horrible fashion. But we hardly see anything in the BBFC "approved" version.
I don`t particularly like Temple Of Doom, but it has its moments. And anyway, it`s a point of principle.

I just watched it (ROTLA that is), and after only ever seeing about half of it before, I have to say it was only quite good, and not as good as it is hyped up to be.
The opening is very good, and it has some good moments after that, but it now looks very dated (although the remastered video/audio come November 4th should help), and Spielberg isn`t showing off the flair that he developed in later years.
I will still buy the Indy collection though, although I haven`t seen either TOD or TLC...how I missed them over the years I don`t know.

Chewie,
Would you really get the R1 version?
Thought you were an R2 & 4 man. I know your opinions on R1 `jerkiness` etc. and lately I`m finding myself agreeing more and more with that viewpoint. Some people just can`t even see the `jerkiness` aspect - even on quick moving scenes. I`ve asked for a `technical` explanation but it appears that with the right (expensive??) equipment, it`s not a problem.
True??
Ste
chewie, I can`t check right now as the bbfc site is on a go-slow. But I`m positive that the home video version of ToD is uncut, including the heart-ripping scene and the burning (he doesn`t half plummet, screaming all the way, notice how slow Kate capshaw went? and she didn`t burst into flames, even though the other guy seemed to spontaneously combust more than half-way down the hole..)
The BBC always show a cut version, given the subject matter, I`m not suprised.
Edit========
I`m sort of right, I have seen an uncut version, but this is from the Imdb..
The UK versions have lost some of the gorier moments to get a PG certificate. These include cuts to the hand in the chest scene, and of the victim in flames shortly after that. The BBFC refused to restore these scenes for a later boxed set release because Spielberg had not given his personal permission. It thus remains as a cut PG in all releases.
