Page 1 of Wharfedale - NEED HELP

Just bought a wharfedale 750s and was very happy with it until i realised this problem. It appears that when it is playing the picture is slightly going darker then lighter. Although it is only slight it is noticeable. I was wondering whether it is because of the tv that i was using (as it is getting on a little) or whether it is something else. If anyone has suffered similar probs and managed to sort it out i would appreciate the help. Plus i bought the gladiator dvd and havnt suffered the problems that others seem to have encountered with cd2.

Are you putting the SCART output from the 750S into a passthru on your VCR?

If so what you are seeing is the effects of Macrovision copy protection.

It`s "normal" and the best way to get round it is to plug the DVD player stright into the TV SCART.

Or pay £50 to get Macro disabled on the 750S ;)

I have set up the dvd as it should be set up and understand what you are saying about the macrovision protection coming into effect as i have already tried to do this to do a ` backup` of a dvd i already have. Eventhough the dvd is set up correctly i still see this subtle (and i emphasise subtle) picture change, going from dark into light even though it is set up correctly. Any ideas. It could simply be that mky tv is prehistoric as i have had it for a num,ber of years and this simply could be the reason.

Maybe its an interference thing? Are you running composite or RGB through the scart or an s-video connection? Also if you are using RGB through the scart are you using a switch box with other equipment plugged in as well, this can cause the RGB picture to look a little darker than it should but ive must have admit Ive never seen it go light to dark and vice-versa...

I had a similar fault with a Wharfedale 750 on a couple of Region 1 DVD`s, although others played fine.
I took my player back to Tescos and replaced it with a 750s and I no longer have this problem. Maybe it is a random fault with some of the Wharfedale players - try taking it back and get a replacement.

I have a Wharfedale 890TV and 750s player. R1 DVDs would be jumpy so I set the DVD player to Auto Refresh mode, and made sure that I connected the SCART cable directly to AV1 which can handle PURE NTSC refresh signals. All DVDs play a treat!!! The 750s has a number of screen refresh settings, so definitely check this one out.

Managed to sort this out and as suspected it was my prehistoric tv. I think i will now take this tv out into the garden and put it out of its misery by blowing it up. Or i might just put my foot through it if i change my mind.
