There are the classics like Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello and the Marx Brothers, they are really good slapstick, physical comedy. The Farrelly brother`s stuff is good, modern comedy. The pre-cursor to today`s teen comedies stuff, such as Road Trip and American Pie and to more of an extent `Scary Movie` are the classic Abraham and Zucker films like `Airplane` and `Naked Gun`.

My all-time favourite comedies are the John Hughes films from the 80s, in particular `Planes, Trains and Automobiles`. But by far and away the funiest film ever made is `Ferris Bueller`s Day Off`. A film which makes me laugh in different places each time I watch it.

If you want older movies, there`s Some Like it Hot (obviously), plus pretty much any movie made by Preston Sturges - eg, The Lady Eve. My favourite Sturges is Palm Beach Story, not on dvd though, which is one of the wittiest & rudest films ever made (marvel at how the blatant sexual humour got past the censors in 1942).

Or there`s All About Eve, with Bette Davis on top form. Or The Ladykillers, very black comedy, & recently re-released with three other Ealing comedies in a very nice dvd pack. Or, from the 60s, Dr Strangelove, one of Peter Sellers` best films.

Ferris is also one of my favourite modern comedies. For (very) black humour there`s American Psycho, Election & Heathers, or for lighter laughs there`s Muriel`s Wedding, Strictly Ballroom, Get Shorty, Clueless,

And don`t forget Rushmore - very weird, offbeat humour - or, for spoof documentary-type things, there`s Best in Show or Drop Dead Gorgeous (and, obviously, This is Spinal Tap...).

I obviously don`t have enough work to do this morning.

Will Hay films are worth a look, old but brilliant.

Laurel and Hardy, One I remember is when they are delivering a paino to some bloke, ( He lives on second floor) they use a Donkey and a winch to lift it up and so they can put it through the window, all goes horrible wrong and the the donkey ends up in the mans living room...lol

Marx brothers nuff said.

Can`t think of any recenct stuff Steve Martin, John Candy, Bill Murry have had their moments

Bear.
