cheap printer

crast (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 11th January 2003, 03:21

No I don`t have one but I would like one.
Not even a cheap printer but a reasonably priced one with cheap inks.
Saw a Hp 3330 in toys`r`us for £30 but couldn`t find the price for the inks.
Any ideas.

Cheers

Can`t help you just yet but don`t fall into the trap i fell into 12 months ago...
`Lexmark Z31 printer only £50` a bargain i thought until i came to replace the cartridges.. £53 for Black and Colour. It`s sat unused under my computer ever since.
I`m now looking for the cheapest cartridges and will buy a printer to suit!!!!!

Epson printers a re usually a good bet, as "compatible" ink cartridges are freely available - I believe HP ones are also available these days, but they`re not so widespread. Clayts posted a link to an ink cartridge place he uses for HP compatibles, as well as Epsons etc - might be worth a search. Maybe that Lexmark can come out of the mothballs....

Yeah, the only problem with those printers is the cost of the cartridge, that £26.99 seems cheap, until you realise that a new black and colour cartridge will cost you over £30! (£17.50 and £16.50 respectively). Moans has it right, look for cheap cartridges, and buy a printer to suit!

Im not a fan of Lexmark but one thing I did notice is there inks do print more pages than ones from other makes like Epson.

I saw a good review of a new Canon 330 (i think) which is not the cheapest at about £80 but a pair of compatibles for it are about £5 like my Epson.

I like Epson but all the printers use "Chipped" cartridges now and compatibles are over £10 a pair.

Try Cartridge World if you have one? I have a Lexmark and have saved a bomb on the replacements (they refill them) and haven`t noticed any deteriation in print quality. (Don`t work for them either!)
