Need a favour from someone with a DVD recorder and Sky....

mmck (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 2nd December 2002, 21:07

Any kind souls out there who would be willing to record "A Very Merry Muppet Christmas" onto a round shiny disc for me? It`s on at the following times:

08/12/02 - 19:00 - Sky Movies Premier 1
09/12/02 - 05:35 - Sky Movies Premier 1
11/12/02 - 13:20 - Sky Movies Premier 2
11/12/02 - 19:00 - Sky Movies Premier 2

I have a feeling that it`ll be watched enough times to wear out a VHS....

I dont have sky but I was under the impression the movies on Sky Premier were macrovisioned, so unable to record to VHS or DVD unless disabled.

Its also illegal to give a recording to someone else

Only films shown on Sky Box Office/Front Row are Macrovisioned.

And technically you are right about the legalities of it all, but I`m sure we`ve all borrowed a video of something our mates have taped, surely ?

hmmmm...

There`s no `technically` about it. How is this any different to someone selling pirate DVDs? I`m guessing the thread starter will be paying whoever tapes it some money? I very much doubt he`ll be borrowing it!

Can open - worms everywhere....

I had intended to tape this movie for the kids onto VHS. (Having both Sky and a VHS recorder.) I was hoping that someone would make a copy for me onto something a little more hard-wearing than a VHS tape, knowing how often children will rewatch films, often several times in a day.

There`s nothing sinister in my request - I`m not looking to start a DVD piracy ring. I am effectively looking to borrow someone`s DVD recorder (without it actually leaving their house) to record this movie for my family`s enjoyment. This is a brand new TV movie that hasn`t yet been released on DVD. (It`s not to be confused with the Muppet Christmas Carol movie which has just been released recently.) When someone officially releases a DVD, I will buy it, like I have for all the other Muppet DVDs released so far.

Oh, and no, I wasn`t offering money over and above the cost of a blank DVR+/-R. Like I said in the header, I`m looking for a favour here.

I own an Oasis song on a s***ty tape which I recorded off the radio. I would like the song in .mp3 format so that I can play it on my laptop over and over again without having to rewind it. Would someone please download the song off KaZaa and email it to me at cba[at].moc.321

This would be deleted if it was posted on the forum and I don`t see how your request is that much different.

I honestly hope you get this off someone as the ethical issues don`t bother me in the slightest. I just can`t believe the thread has been allowed by a mod on the argument that "I`m sure we`ve all borrowed a video of something our mates have taped" - I`m sure we`ve all downloaded pirated .mp3s from the internet but that doesn`t let us post the URLs on the forums!

Bloody hell guys come on!
Someone`s asked for a favour here and we`re into talking about piracy and downloading.
OK, there may well be a copyright issue (just the same as when you record anything from tele) but no different, copyright-wise, to taping to VHS. I`m sure most of us lent tapes from friends/family or rang someone up and asked someone to tape something for you.

If you can`t, as I can`t, help him say so. Don`t think we need the morality lectures.

As far as I am concerned Sky are the biggest bunch of B*****d`s going and would have no regrets about copying their films if I had the system but I don`t so ....

But if there is anyone with a dvd recorder and sky with subscription to the adult channel or television x etc any chance of sending me a disc just to see if my player can handle dvd recordables
