Time for a VCD Forum?

Nikon (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 24th July 2002, 22:48

I think it might be time to start a VCD forum if only to keep all the messages in one place as no one seams to knows where to post VCD items. There appears to be a lot of questions about VCD related items which I read with some interest but it's getting that on a DVD website when people are asking for advice about players etc you get things like, it works with SVCD VCD MP3 CDR CDRW and then as an afterthought "oh it also plays DVD's".
I may be a little biased because I got my DVD player to watch DVD's but a VCD area would be a benefit to the members who want to discuss VCD and related subjects, and yes I'll still read the posts with some interest.

I think the one reason we probably won`t have a VCD forum is the amount of requests for how to download them and buy pirate versions of them illegally. :)

If vcdhelp is fulfilling the VCD needs of everyone how come there appears to be so many questions about VCD`s on this site?

Yes there could be a problem but some of this already occurs and is set to get worse as DVD writers get cheaper and more prevalent. This is already happening with the questions about DVDR and region free disks.

VCD`s would be going backwards for dvd reviewer wouldnt it? The quality of VCD`s arent that great and I still am bemused as to why people still insist on buying them. They are not that much better than vhs and are no way near dvd quality. Ok they are cheap but not that much cheaper. Nowadays you can pick up dvds for £10-£13 and the average legit vcd costs about £7.

Aren`t most of the vcd question usually from people who can`t wait for the dvd versions to come out and are desperate to own them (too desperate if you ask me), The Back to the Future Trilogy being one of the prime examples. Seems a bit extreme to me.
I actually own a VCD but its Mr Vampire 3, unavailable on DVD anywhere (for the foreseeable future) and only a fiver.
