Page 1 of Motion sickness in video games
Gaming and Consoles Forum
I don't quite know why some games make me motion sick, and others are fine, it might be field of view, excess bobbing, visual lag, I'm never quite sure. But I know I'm not alone in suffering from it.
Annoyingly some games I can play for an hour and then I have to stop, others can make me feel queezy after a few minutes. And some I can play indefinitely.
Other than taking a travel sickness pill (yes I'm seriously considering that as an option, but can't find anything on long term use side effects or damage) I might experiment with ginger biscuits. According to the NHS website ginger has been linked with the prevention of nausea and I like them, so it might be worth a go!

Oh boy! Doom 2 flashbacks. The only game that ever made me throw up!
Never had that problem with Quake!

Strange, I never had the problem with Doom or Quake. Even having gone back and played them recently. Half Life 2 I can play for an hour, Far Cry made me really ill within 5 minutes.
Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite I could play for about 2 hours usually.
Tomb Raider I can play for about an hour, which is annoying as it's going to take me ages to finish it!

Does it happens with films as well? I felt ill after watching Cloverfield! I don't like watching documentary style films like Blair Witch and Chronicle, the latter was a quite a good film
I had it with Doom & Blair Witch but havn't seen anything recently & was wondering if it was because my eyesight was worse
RE: Motion sickness in video games
From the link below, this is known as Simulation Sickness. The theory being that the eyes see motion that the inner ear can't detect. The mind thinks this is a hallucination and triggers nausea assuming you've been poisoned. Apparently 10-50% of people are effected by it.
The closest I get is a cold shiver when I go off a building on GTA5 or Assassins Creed. No real life fear of heights though.

The only thing with video games that triggers a feeling of nausea in me is the price.

Cloverfield is the only film I've ever had it on, well so far. :) It started on the scene when they are crossing the bridge, and I had to stop the film and go do something else for an hour before I could carry on.

Wow I never knew this! It's a very unique kind of sick feeling I get, often starts with burping.
Sad to read that for the guy in that article anti-sickness pills only gave him slightly longer before he felt ill. :/
