GAME closing gameplay website and 35 stores
I got an email from them the other day saying they were closing down Gameplay.co.uk, which I guess if you had a better site like Gamestation.co.uk which you`d recently revamped then it makes sense to migrate your customers to that.
Didn`t realise they were also closing 35 stores though.
Not surprising I guess, I think any high street retailer that sells physical media is competing with online (often cheaper), download services like Steam (again often cheaper, certainly more convenient) and then going up against supermarkets for the rest, is destined to struggle.

RE: GAME closing gameplay website and 35 stores
I could never understand why they kept all the Gamestation AND Game stores open everywhere.
In Ashford we have Game, Gamestation, CEX and a local independent retailer, Xpress Games, all selling games new and used (CEX are used only obviously) on the High Street. It`s overkill and I`d be very surprised if Ashford wasn`t one of the outlets they close.
Maidstone has TWO Game stores as well as Gamestation and CEX.
It must be like this almost everywhere, so it makes good financial sense to cut back to one online outlet and less outlets in the High Streets.

I didn`t know Gameplay was part of Game, was that a "recent" acquisition?
Near me, there is (or was) a Game in Debenhams, 1 shop closed recently, which was a 1 min walk from 2 other stores, and there`s a GameStation as well. I think Cex is now a bigger shop than all of them put together!
One of the reasons they have so many shops is from when they bought EB, but that was a long time ago.

Also in Ashford we have Tesco and Argos both selling 2nd hand games along with HMV and probably ASDA.

That`s the same as every town I should think. You forgot Sainsburys if you`re counting the supermarkets.
Ailegs, I didn`t know you were local to me.
