Trying hard to resist, do I need it - probably not yet, do i want it - yes.
Game are doing it for £310 inc. Bioshock with £140 trade in on a Premium, so effectively a layout of £140 to upgrade taking off £30 for Bioshock which I actually also want and have cancelled from Virgin....
Only pain is the migration and DMR issues meaning that my kids will require me to be logged into Live to be able to play any of our existing migrated XBL games making it look like i`m online when i`m not....
Good Points, Tidy HDMI Cabling, Bigger Hard Drive for when the video market place rolls out over here in late October and of course It`s Black and newer than my Premium so it might cure my wireless mic problems that i`m still getting even after a replacement headset which can only be a router or xbox issue as wired ones work okay through a wireless handset...
anyone else tempted yet just a little bit?

Don`t really use my machine enough to justify the upgrade. Think I would rather put the extra money towards a PS3 in truth. Not that I wouldn`t like it of course, but I just don`t have any desire to buy it.

I`ve been holding off getting an XBox 360 for a while, but with a recent birthday and the release of the Elite falling shortly after, I`ve finally given in, and will be hopefully grabbing one from Game on Friday (before they close). I think I`ll splash out the extra £10 and get it with the Bioshock bundle, though having £100+ credit from previous trade-ins with Game will soften the blow.
I`m not really needing the extra hard disk space of the Elite, as you can`t copy movies etc from your computer onto it (as far as I`m aware), which would be the main use of that space for me. I can`t see me being a HD movie downloader! So, for now, I`ll be hooking the 360 up to my Mac to stream video, music and photos etc to it. This is one of the key reasons I`ve finally decided to get the 360 - using it as a media centre on top of a next gen gaming console. The addition of the HDMI output and cable is attractive, though I will be sending the optical audio to my surround system, so the cable will only be used for video (and unfortunately I can only view 1080i on my HD LCD). But at least you get everything in the box with the Elite - the HDMI cable, an audio adapter/dongle (if using the HDMI cable and want to output optically), and the HD component cable (if you don`t have a HDMI port), plus the other usual bits n bobs.
Yes, over the next few months all XBox Premiums will be introduced with HDMI ports (without the accompanying cables though), but I am fed up of waiitng. Now is the time to finally bite the bullet, and seeing as the prices have just been dropped I can stomach it. At least the black casing will look different! The PS3 is just too expensive still for me to even contemplate considering.

You can`t copy movies onto the Xbox360??! That`s a bit crap by MS.
Its one of the things I`m loving right now with my PS3. Using PS3Video9 and the MKV passthrough option I`ve got quite a few HD movies on the PS3 and they look fantastic. And I would have thought that MS`s console could do the same. I knew it could stream, but I thought you could also store the films on the internal hard drive.

Well I`m going to get one hopefully on Friday as my fourth 360 has died. Apparently the ventilation has been slightly improved on the Elite so for an extra £20 it`s worth it. My only thing is, what happens in regards my gamerscore? Will I lose all my points? I assume I can log into my gamer tag on any 360?

What I don`t get, is that you can buy a kit to transfer your stuff from 360 premium to 360 elite.
That sounds fair enough, assuming you have both sitting in your living room. I`m assuming Game won`t let you bring in your premium and start hooking it up in the shop, or when you go in say, "I want to part exchange, but can can you sell me a 360 elite now, and the kit, and I`ll be back in 2 hrs with my premium" ;)
apart from that I read in US the failure rate of the 360 elite was no better than the normal 360, it`s all the same bits inside at the mo :(

It gets worse then. I thought they were talking about using the 65nm chips in the Elite consoles??... If so, in theory less heat and therefore less fan noise.

I`m fairly sure that`s what everyone was hoping/assuming, but you know those ppl that buy new consoles, then take them apart, to see what`s inside, put pictures on the internets, they did that and found it was the same old bits inside.
That was however a few months ago, so it`s possible the new bits will be inside the Elites over here, like them sneaking HDMI outputs on the back of regular 360s now.
