Have one in my cube now :) there is still a few issues with it. Like the cubes need decend mini dvdr`s if you wanna backup your own games. you can also take the lid off and stick a full size dvdr in there ;)

Can purchase them from VideogameCompany

a mis-print.

It is designed for Homebew app or programming but, the hacked bios (Cobra) can now play backups and multiregion etc. But its only the 1st revision of the bios. 0.2 and there are problems. Dont get it just yet if you have a Cube that says DOL101 on the bottom of it. Current bios doesnt support it. Just a word of warning.

Places to read up on it....

So it plays backed up games on normal sized dvd-r`s? This could well breathe life into the Cube.Any other problems with it apart from not playing on DOL101s ?

I suspect you would need to download the games from somewhere rather than copy originals, unless you have the broadband adapter and Phantasy Star Online, because the mini DVD format the GC uses is all back to front and the wrong way around.

So basically you can`t read the discs in a normal drive.

This is an interesting development considering the claims that the console is `dying`.

Though argument that the Gamecube hasn`t done so well because it couldn`t be modified, until now, might not be true. Consider the Dreamcast for example; you didn`t even have to chip it - you just had to copy the games and they`d play. And look what happened to that! :(

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

Interestingly enough Gamecube mini dvds were supposedly nintendos own custom discs but infact they are normal 1.4 gig mini`s.

And normal dvd writers can burn iso`s.

The next revision of the bios will allow ripping of originals. Apparently.

So bring on the emulators and lets get crackin.

Yes....weird how it`s taken so long to crack. The main reason given in the past were that the discs were of a new format. Is this new chip upgradable in the future or will there be a next generation one in a couple of weeks?
I`ve been reliably informed (as mentioned earlier) that the small discs are extremely temperamental and that`s it`s best to go with the large normal ones with your top off! :D

That`s a shame, screw Bill Gaytes for all he`s worth, but please leave ninty alone. We`ve lost Sega, and it would be a real shame to see Nintendo stop developing hardware.

Yes, just read back to front and spun the wrong way, or some combination of the two. :)

The Dreamcast was the same, only it also crammed 1gb onto a CD. But Sega left code in the bios for reading normal CDs so all hackers had to do was burn a boot loader on the outside of the disc the wrong way that put the system into a state where it then read it the correct way.

Well that and rip/re-encode all the movies till it fit under 700mb.

I`m not convinced that the GC hasn`t done well in Europe and the US is because it wasn`t crackable whilst the XBox and PS2 where. I think you have to blame Nintendo`s marketing, just as for the DC you had to blame Segas.

The GC has a few good exclusive titles, but only Pikmin and Rogue Leader where advertised at the start, and even then the GC was too pricey. Then you saw nothing on TV for years.

Deathknell sounds, and GC prices drop to £80, then suddenly loads of people go out and buy them.

Then Donkey Konga comes along, backed by one of the worst TV advertising campaigns I`ve seen in ages.

Compare all this with the amount of advertising you see for the PS2, and even the XBox, and it seems to be pretty clear that there is a direct correlation between sales and TV ad spending.
