Football Manager 2005

Mark Turner (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd November 2004, 16:16

As a fan of the Championship Manager series going right back to Atari ST and Amiga days, I`m looking forward to SI`s first post-Eidos offering which is released on Thursday. Anyone else got it on pre-order? At £17.99, it seemed rude not to put my business the way of play.com......

I was a bit underwhelmed by CM4, and it never really grabbed me the same way that the previous incarnations had. Still, I suppose that might have also had something to do with `Er Indoors moving in with me at roundabout the time it came out and so me not having the vast amounts of time to devote to the game which I had previously had. In fact, I very rarely get to play any games at all any more :(

Still, this is a special occasion, so I shall have to MAKE time to try out FM and turn Aston Villa into the world-conquering all-powerful footballing force they truly deserve to be! ;)

Me too, yep, c`mon the Villa! Great minds think alike eh? :D Looking forward the the next update (as always) I just hope that not too many `casual` Champ man fans don`t buy the wrong game. Its such a shame that SI couldn`t keep the name but I suppose its the game that really matters.

Spotted any wonderkids in the demo yet? (I haven`t :( )

Splintercell - What the hell`s going on here with all of these Villa fans? Surely the real challenge is getting our beloved Baggies to the top of the Premiership!! :D :D :D

Boing boing boing - right back down to Division One :p

I haven`t actually played the demo yet - it completely slipped my mind to check the SI website to see whether they had released one. DOH! Ah well, my order has now shipped from Play, so with a bit of luck it will be here on Friday or Saturday. It`s in the shops tomorrow, for anyone who doesn`t want to wait for mail order!

Rooney. And Ronaldo. At Man Utd.

My Demos just run out. Therefore I`m well placed to comment on it.

My thoughts on it so far...

Far too easy to score. In my charity shield match I beat arsenal with Man Utd 7-2. Other such highlights include thrashing arsenal 8-1 in a league match, thrashing liverpool 6-0, thrashing Ajax 8-0, Ruud scoring all four in a match against Champions league opposition(wait, that is realistic). I think I also had 8 penalies in a row for me.

Refs are far too strict with diving and shirt pulling - at least one player will pick up a yellow card each match because of this.

I`m not sure if this is just bad luck, but almost all of my first team squad was out towards the end of the demo with injuries, leaving my with a team of :
GK: Ricardo
DL: Tierney
DR: Bonera
DC: Pique
DC: O`Shea
ML: Djordic
MR: Fletcher
MC: Julio Baptista
MC: Kleberson
FC: Smith
FC: Saha

Don`t get me started on the subs bench. The whole thing is rigged to make you lose.

Ahhh but that`s the point. It`s a pre-release demo, and as far as I am aware they were used somewhat to test it and get opinions on the game. So expect the final retail to remove some of the bugs and just generally be better. ;)

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

I had the "Gold Demo". Is this not the demo taken from when the game goes gold? Still, I expect an enhancement patch will be out soon. I can`t really complain, I`ve had 18 hours of play for nothing. That is more than you get in most games full stop.
