Bored at work so sneaked off for a Cinema matinne viewing of this Si-fi picture. 20 people in the cinema so it was popular. £8 for 2D viewing at lunchtime?, so yet another increase in seat cost, are they trying to drive us out of the cinemas?
For those not knowing the story it is a sort of 'repeating time' film during one day of alien fighting, so you would think it is a sort of Groundhod day senario, and your right, but gets round this quickly by very fast pace-ing of repeat time, geting it out the way to keep the story moving.
The battles are fast action and amazing detail in foreground and way in the background, which really needs a repeat viewing by reversing DVD back to catch it all, but unfortunately DVD is not available yet.
This film requires a bit of brain power to think it through, unlike other blockbusters si-fi like Pacific rim. I really liked it, and will get the DVD.
Main two actors are good at the part, and at least the ending is.....
SPOILER:
Happy for a change
Only Downside...
SPOILER:
Side soldiers are highly forgetable and you have no sympathy really when they get nasty deaths. So goes away from the old platoon format of get to know everyone, before they are killed off one by one.
I went to see this at the BFI Imax in London, purely because it was on tbh and was presently surprised, the Imax didnt blow me away though especially when some spotty nosed nyaff kept on about it being the biggest screen in the UK, I was hoping it would be spectacular, it wasnt :)
I think for spectacular in the IMax , you will have to wait for Avatar 2.

"I think for spectacular in the IMax , you will have to wait for Interstellar."
* Fixed :)
Now I know where it is and that its only 5 min from Waterloo I will go more often :)
