SHREK> Anyone else having BIG out of synch problems????

moorsman (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 5th January 2002, 16:06

Hi, little lad got shrek for christmas and first watch or two it seemed great, lot better than I expected and great picture too.
Only found fault when watching making documentaries and they are an absolute mile out of synch ( the RW or FF play, trick doesn`t help ).
Then went back to look at feature again and that too is pretty well out of synch.
We have a toshiba 210 which is normally great, of course the odd discs can be a little out, but on the docs especially its horrendous, must be the disc itself.
Anyone else noticed this, is it the master, don`t they care.
Would welcome anyfeedback.
Best, Mark.

The Making Of documentary is badly out of synch on mine, so it must be on all of them... a bit bad of them to release it like that. The actual film is fine I think.

The main feature appears to be OK on my Wharfedale M5 as far as I can tell, it`s always a bit difficult with cartoons! The documentaries and extras are a mile out! I have the region 2 disc. Incidently someone at work has had the same problems on a Sony.

Where would we stand on a refund?

Lip sync is occasionally slightly out on my R1 ... but, errrm, those aren`t real lips and they aren`t *really* speaking, guys. It`s a cartoon! :-o

Moorsman, is this region 1 or 2 that you`re having a prob with?

Hi, its the Region 2 where the docs are so far out they are almost on the shrek II disc. ( and they haven`t made it yet. ) The actual feature is also out though not as easy to tell.
Looks like its the same on a lot of them, maybe all. They must have noticed and don`t give a stuff. They obviously think they deserve our money mind you. Mutter Mutter.
Best,Mark.

Have you tried this disc in another player? More often than not it`s the player that has problems with the disc. If the player is fine, then you`re entitled to make a complaint to the retailer you got the disc from.

I know the R1 disc is fine.

I dont agree with only going back to the retailer if you know its only the disk at fault - from a principle-point-of-view.. especially with a Toshiba 210. Ive got a Tosh 110 and would think that if a disk wont play on this fine machine then I would like to get my money back and buy another film. If I had an low budget player then I would accept the dishonour of the disk and sulk and buy a better player.

Surely if the disc is known to have a problem, this is reason enough to return it? If there are enough complaints about it from people with all sorts of players, then this should be a good enough reason to return to the retailer. As a matter of principle I would raise the problem with the retailer, but only if I knew that the disc and not my machine was at fault.

I accept the argument of cheap DVD players` lack of ability to play certain DVDs. There are always postings of people who have problems of one sort or another, and these tend to be with the cheaper DVD players on the market. I`ve never had disc problems with my Arcam which is why I invested in this player in the first place.

You get what you pay for.
