Alien Quadrilogy - seamless branching issues (R2)
Hey people :)
Just watched the first film from the Alien Quadrilogy box set, and noticed some issues that might be connected to the seamless branching director`s cut? In short, the DVD paused on about five occasions, in what looked like very bad layer changes (of course they were not). I`ve read bits and bobs about people (with both R1 and R2) having difficulties with this set, and they seem to be saying that it is an issue with seamless branching. The odd thing is that, every time I noticed a pause, I re-wound to catch it again, but couldn`t replicate the fault. In other words, the seamless branching played exactly as it was supposed to.
My DVD player is an LG DVX9900H which has given me zero problems in the four-or-so months I`ve had it. Has anyone else had Alien Quadrilogy problems? (A quick search of Reviewer showed that it was briefly brought up before, but never discussed).
Off to do some more investigating...
Thanks!

RE: Alien Quadrilogy - seamless branching issues (R2)
i remember this from when it came out. i had similar problems, i replaced two sets and still had the trouble. for me it seemed like a pause then the audio would go out and the screen break up a little, i guess were these scenes were added. i even tried the sets out on different players. if i remember though some players coped with them ok.

Sounds exactly like my experience. I went back to my LG last night & couldn`t replicate the fault, which is a bit odd. My PS2 gave the slightest of slight pauses - barely noticeable - and continued as normal.

I was gonna buy this myself but after reading various reviews about it I think I`ll stick to my original boxset! :/

i bought this a while ago and remember people complaining when it origionally came out, i have a pioneer and must say all have played fine except for no3 which i have not watched yet.

I don`t remember having any problems when I last watched it on my Tosh.

I had a few playback probs on a few disks with my old player (an LG) There were a few points in the Quadrilogy where it froze or skipped a chapter, I also had probs with the Hellraiser set freezing, but since getting my new player (a cheap Medion one from the ALDI) Ive had no playback problems with any disks
There were a few folks with playback probs when the Quadrilogy came out but I think its only with a minority of players

Watched the first Alien with the missus last night, and there were no probs at all. Nice to see new footage. Still a truly great movie. Thank God I picked this boxset over the 10 disc Matrix one!

I too remember reading about this problem when the set was originally released all those years ago but personally I never had any trouble but my brother told me once about how he couldnt watch the Workprint of Alien 3 because it kept freezing and skipping but after he upgraded to a JVC Home Cinema system he didnt have any trouble.
