Any fans of this show here?
I`ve never seen much of it myself, but noticed that there`s a complete "universe" box set being released next month. It contains all 5 seasons, all the TV movies and the short lived spin-off "Crusade". The big boys have it pegged for £150-£160.
Someone want to sell me on the show? I don`t want to blow my wad on this thing and then find out it sucks big hairy balls.

Its a five year story.
It has a standard ARC STORY format, where each week it builds up on previous weeks, so if you miss some episodes it can be difficult to figure out whats going on.
As for the story itself , its set in a massive space station filled with humans and aliens during peace and war.
The CGI backgrounds within the spaceship cylinder itself are great and also the spaceships. Sets are also well made. Aliens are OK, and get realy good near the last series with CGI Aliens.
Acting is reasonable and believable. Some episode are mundane others can excel themselves.
One of the best episodes is with the Captain throwing himself out the zero-gravity train into the massive cylinder of the Spacestation itself, Other episodes go into the alien mindset, like the `night of the dead`.
My best advise to you is to go into a `Babalon 5` fan website and track down a few good episodes as mentioned above and get a feel of whether you like it first.

Babylon 5 is the thinking mans star trek,Ok not all star trek but it out does deep space 9.
Babylon 5 is THE best sci-fi TV series bar none. Seasons 1 and 5 aren`t as hot due to various reasons, but still very very good. Season 2-3 however are just phenomenal with a massive intergalactic war between the forces of good and evil.
As mentioned previously, the series has a long story arc where things will happen that don`t see a resolution for some time, possibly not even within the same season.
I own all the series plus the R1 movie collection, and my ambition is to review them all on here when I have time to watch them all again. These are amongst my most treasured DVDs (and I have more than a few).
Check out my review of the Movie collection on the R1 page, and google `lurkers guide to babylon 5` for the definitive website. This unofficial site contains a complete episode guide with questions and analysis plus words from creator J.Michael Straczynski.

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...
And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...
Sounds good. Sounds very good.
Always been a fan of long story arcs, and the fact that B5 has them in spades is one of the few things I know about the show.
Cheers, dudes. You`ve sold me on it. :)

have to agree with the above comments... if it comes in at under £100 i will be first in the queue... i have the four feature length films (on vhs `He whispers`)
`I am going to live forever, or die trying`...
Always managed to pick up the boxsets for about £20-30 each.
B5 is one of the best Sci-Fi series produced, intelligent & believable (even if a lot of elements were ripped off from LOTR\Authurian legend).
I think my favorite scene from B5 just has to be:
Quote:
Morden: What do you want?
Vir: I`d like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike - as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave . . . like this.
Can your associates arrange this for me, Mr. Morden?
SPOILER:
He gets his wish fulfilled in S4 by Londo (how Londo knew of this is never quite explained & seems rather rushed when you consider his pain over Adira`s death & wanting to make the author of her death suffer slowly. Anyway Vir gives a rather shy but gleeful little wave to Mordens head on a pike.
If you want some idea of the scope & power of the scripts.
I just have to get the last 3 TVM on Boxset & Crusade (maybe Legend Of The Rangers as well hmmmmmm ohhhh look Lord Of The Rings). ;)
I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

Whilst I always preferred "Deep Space 9", I did really like Babylon 5 too (fans of one usually hate the other! :/ ).
I thought the TV movies and "Crusade" were very average, but seasons 2, 3 and 4 of B5 are excellent. And the series finale "Sleeping In Light" is fanastic (get those hankies ready...).

DS9 is probably my fave ST series, but B5 ruled all.
The only problem with it was it was a 5 year arc, but they thought they were going to get cancelled in the penultimate series so they wrapped everything up early, meaning S5 is one of the weaker ones. But B5 on a bad day is still better than most series I can think of.
I just loved it. Some of the ideas and concepts were teriffic. They had flawed characters stuggling to make it in a war, devious bad guys and kick arse good guys. And then some of the good guys turn out to be bad guys (indirectly).
Thinking back, its a bit of a blueprint for the new BSG series, if you liked that. It seems a little dated now, but it was the first sci-fi series I can remember to contain real grit and deal with some big issues.
