Page 1 of DVD Audio............Where?

For yonks i have heard about high def music in 5.1 surround sound such SACD and DVD Audio, but where can you buy them in the shops because HMV as an extensive CD and DVD shop with tons of choice but DVD Audio is curiously absent. Please tell me where i can get them.

Well you can pick up hybrid SACD/CD`s (that`s discs with two layers, one SACD the other a standard CD) in HMV or Virgin, they should have Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd and the new re-release of Jeff Wayne`s War Of The Worlds plus back catalogue stuff by The Rolling Stones and Bod Dylan to name a few. You may also find some DVD-A titles in Virgin but they`ll be with the standard CD`s.You can also get them online from Amazon or Play.

You do know that a standard DVD palyer will not play these discs?

Not strictly true - some do.

Most DVD-Audio discs will also have either a DD or DTS 5.1 mix on, so, if you have the right decoding equipment, you will still get a brilliant sound.

I have both Queen`s (DTS) & Crowded House`s (DD) DVD-A releases and they`re great!

i get/got mine from elusivedisc.com in the states - much braoder range and surprise surprise better prices. they carry ANYTHING so make sure it is m-ch (multichannel) dvd-a or sacd.

and customs friendly if you have a word in their ear.

i got maybe 3 or 4 - mainly because i have a few classical tracks that i wanted in 5.1. personally, i didn`t think the sound was all that. hence why i only have 3 or 4 discs.

Okay I`ll revise my coment -
You do know that you need a special DVD player to get the most out of these discs?
DD 5.1 may sound good compared to a standard CD but its nothing compared to DVD-A or SACD

Play.com have a section for both SACD and DVD-A discs. Just click the music tag.

YUP PLAY.COM DOES HAVE QUITE A GOOD SELECTION THATS WHERE MY BRO GETS HIS

They sell them at a few web sites, including Play, MVC & HMV (they tend to be in the "music" section, rather than the "DVD" section)

My local high street MVC also used to sell them, but doesn`t seem to stock them anymore (I guess they didn`t sell many)

Try MVC they had a load of DVD Audio and SACD discs for £2 each, always in a seperate section though
