Page 1 of The Jacket - superb!
DVDs & Films Forum
Just watched The Jacket and thought it was excellent.
Fans of The Butterfly Effect and maybe Donnie Darko should love it.
Adrien Brody`s acting is very good and Keira Knightley is good in it too and there`s a great haunting soundtrack at times too.
Can imagine the story will cause loads of arguments on some movie forums about what did or didn`t happen...
Anyone else seen it?

A large section of this film was shot about 2 miles from my house (a lot of the mental home scenes, inside and out, and the beginning Night Vision scenes were shot in the bings :D ).
I went to see it at the weekend and enjoyed it, but only for it`s running time. The plot was rubbish and doesn`t stand up to close inspection. It`s not particularly original, or at least not as original as it thinks it is. It`s certainly not a waste of time. I was impressed with Knightley`s accent, I`m now convinced that she isn`t just a pretty face.
I thought it might be a quirky little genre film, but it`s another case of style over substance.
But as you said, the performances were good. I didn`t even recognise Daniel Craig at first.
The ending was also a bit, well, crap.

I think, like a lot of `time travel` films, they don`t stand up to close inspection. But I think that`s part of it - it can`t do.
I liked the way he used things from the past in the future and vice versa.
And thought the end - SPOILER:
the way he knew he was dying but wanted to check out if his letter had done the trick was good. Had a tear down the missus`s cheek anyway ;-)

I enjoyed it, but as chewie says it has masses of plot holes. I`ve recommended it to a few friends though, although it`s not one of those types of films like Donnie Darko that has you thinking afterwards.
SPOILER:
Doesn`t he go into the future, finding out the treatment from the female doctor to help the little boy, and then returns back to normal time to tell her. That surely doesn`t make sense?
It`s definitely one of the better films I`ve seen lately. :D
Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

Of course that doesn`t make sense but assuming that it makes sense in the context of the film then the ending doesn`t make sense as thats what it should have been all along
as otherwise you have to assume that there is both predestiny and freewill.
SPOILER:
It would only have made sense if he`d gone to the future and learnt what should have been done and then done it in which case each time he went to the future it would be different
Like I said, those sorts of things can be levelled at all sorts of time travel films - certainly including Terminator (esp 2) and BTTF.

Watched this on a superb "copy" about a month ago & thoroughly enjoyed it, ok there are a couple of things that you could pick away at, but there are in most sci-fi flicks.
7/10
I personally prefered The butterfly effect & thought it was about the same as Mr Darko
You say pyscho like its a bad thing
The first hour was really good but it just kinda fizzled out at the end. Disappointing.
And, as previously stated, full of plot holes.
given its meant to be an intelligent movie rather than a popcorn job the plot holes are a bit too big. You don`t expect someone watching T2 to be bothered by such details as they are just background to arnie laying waste with big guns but in this sort of film the time travel element plays a more significant role.
