Team America World Police - R1 UNRATED vs R2

DVDNUTTER (Competent) posted this on Monday, 21st February 2005, 20:19

Hi All,

So this is another one of those American Releases that got re-edited to receive an R Rating at the US Cinema. Unlike SAW, it is getting an UNRATED R1 Release though.

What`s going on across the pond?

As far as I can see from the IMDB, the US Edition was re-edited from an NC-17 to get an R Rating. It deatils the Puppet Love Scene! The UK Version was not Re-edited!

I therefore believe that the UK Theatrical and therefore the R2 DVD Release will be the same as the US R1 Unrated Release.

Same as Road Trip, eurotrip, old school, American Pie 2 & 3 etc...

DVD releases in the states aren`t governed by the same guidelines the BBFC use. After the MPAA have certified a cinema release, that`s their job done. After that, the distributors can add what they want (within reason) and slap an `UNRATED` label on it to pump up the sales.

Over here, when a DVD is released, the BBFC will re-classify the film if necessary, but the distributors will keep the `UNRATED` label in an attempt to pump up the sales.

It`s nothing new, it`s simply marketing

Was there salad tossing in the UK release? That appears to be the only difference. The US DVDs are approx. 97 and 98 minutes respectively, while the UK theatrical release was classified with a running time of 97m 49s.

AFAIR, they said the version submitted to the BBFC was the US R-rated cut. I think most of the stuff that would have earned them a US NC-17 rating was included in the initial cut because the idea of somebody from the MPAA having to watch it appealed to them.

So, does anyone know how the various region versions of the DVD compare? Nothing on Rewind about it.

Pretty sure they`re gonna be more or less identical.
