What to buy in America

Riggs (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 7th August 2004, 10:35

I will hopefully be visiting the States in a couple of weeks on business and wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to decent dvds that I either cannot get in Europe or have better extras etc in America. I enjoy thriller/action/blockbuster movies so anything along those lines would be great.

1st on the list is Bubba Ho-Tep after all the positive reviews on here....any other suggestions?

I`d buy a local newspaper (preferably sunday`s edition) and look for store offers and vouchers, take from there. Walmart, Target, circuit city, etc will always have a bargain in store.

See if you can get into the country first, I watched Tonight with Trevor McDonald, and apparently anyone who isn`t an American will be treated as suspected terrorists.

On the program they said it isn`t in isolated cases, but is happening quite a lot.
If you do get pulled to one side because they don`t like the look of your face, they immediately arrest you, where they handcuff you from your hands to your feet like they would with a serial killer.

They hold you in a cell or office for over 24 hours, without food, water, or rights to see a lawyer, for security reasons. Then when they interview you, asking you personal questions, that has no relation to the accusations, they fingerprint you, take a mug shot If you, and then they send you back home, and barred from entering the country for life.

Check US sites for box sets that you may want to buy and avoid customs.

I was in America recently & there was a very good Buy 3 get a 4th free DVD offer in Borders, which included everything, boxsets and all.

So I ended up with Dukes of Hazzard Series I, Simpsons Season 4, Citizen Kane (much better extras on R1) and Back to the Future Trilogy (much better extras on R1). I was also considering getting Memento (again, better extras) & Boogie Nights (same).

I`d recommend that you get one of the `Dark Shadows` box sets. (Cheesy daytime vampire soap from late 60`s / early `70`s). You`ll hate it, unlike my good self who`ll happily re-live a mispent youth in the US ... Actually, now I think about it, I`ll take it off your hands completely free of charge. Now that`s a win-win... ;)

Thought of a couple of others; Leon - the professional Uncut Int. Edit.

Anyone any thoughts on Hellboy?
