Page 1 of Shrek 2 - pointless changes for the UK release.

I`ve already seen it on d/l, but the wife took me to see it today, and I was a bit startled to see they`ve changed the film specifically for the Brit audience, in the worst way possible.

In the US version, the `Ugly Stepsister` is viced by larry king, giving the character a deep, gravellyVoice. In the British version the woman is voiced by..... Johnathan Ross?!?!? WTF? completely kills the point of the character dead.

Also, The Ball guest announcer is played by Joan Rivers, and is designed to resemble her. The british version has a completely different, British accented actor playing the part. maybe we`re supposed to gasp and say `Oh, it`s her!` but I had no clue as to who it was. (looked on imdb, apparently it`s Kate Thornton) Didn`t kill the part, but given the work done to make the character resemble the voice, it seemed to make all that effort a bit moot.

The third difference is the headbutt/neck chop change, but we`ll let that one pass. a heabutt is a bit strong for a kid`s film anyway

The Ross decision is a baffling one, to say the least. What`s even more baffling is that he`s still on tv; talentless twat that he his! :/

I didn`t notice that the ugly sister was voiced by Jonathan Ross - as far as i could make out it was Larry King with a "deep gravelly voice"! I did notice the absence of Joan Rivers and have no idea why they revoiced her.

This train of thought has been voiced before, and with good reason. But as far as `cartoon` violence goes, there are still limits. Tom & Jerry, road runner & Wyle E Coyote`s version of `violence` worked because it was in a cartoon, with big red bundles of TNT and easily obtained ACME rocket-ships. I can`t recall one merry melodie where Daffy Duck grabbed Bugs by the lapels and nutted the annoying twat.

In the case of shrek, although they are CGI characters, they are designed to resemble Humans, so the same theory doesn`t apply.

Yes, 50-year old cartoons contained `violence`, but in the age of 11-year olds carrying knives to school, maybe we should tone down the extreme stuff just a little.
