Page 1 of Is this a loop hole in pirate DVD`s

I have seen a web site that has Pirated DVD`s (LOTR 3 etc..) however, they are not selling them. What you have to do is buy an empty DVD case & with each case bought, you get a free DVD of your choice !

Can this be legal ? after all, they arnt selling them !!

It`s not the selling that is illegal/unlawful, it`s the actual copying.

And if you`re not making money from copying* I would have thought you were unlikely to be taken to court. This just seems to be a "trying to bend the rules" and I would expect Judges/Magistrates to laugh if that was your defence.

* This, I would suggest, means copying your CD`s to MP3 to play on your MP3 player, copying your videos to DVD for convienince, copying your old vinayl collection to Tape, making a mix cd/tape to play in your car. Done any of these? You are a criminal, just not a caught one.

It`s not that different to people who sell pirated PC and console games saying that they are back ups, and that they are selling them to you on the assumption that you own the original, and thus can own a backup.

Theoretically if you bought lots of CDs, DVD etc, copied them to your PC, then sold the originals, you`d have to delete the copies you had made, I think :)

Not really an answer to your question, but i wouldn`t start up/invest in a compnay like that ;)

Selling copies is what trading standards would prosecute for.There is no grey area on that.However,the actual copying is still up in the air,thanks to companies like 321 studios and their DVDXCOPY programs.But court cases are pending in the UK and US about doing back ups of discs,and I think we know which way the courts will go on this one

So what`s the site like than Clayts? ;-)

Do mods see a record of mails sent via Reviewer? You don`t see the content of the mail itself do you? I would have thought there`d be privacy issues there..
