Peter Gabriel-Secret World Live

Anyone else got this and think the picture quality is crap?.
Ive compared it to the VHS copy of it and it looks better.
This new release is supposed to be anamorphic widescreen, digitally remastered and remixed.
The picture now seems very grainy and full of artifacts almost like the compression on a vcd.
As for the remixed sound, the sound engineer didnt like Tony Levins Bass
and Stick sound as its almost dissappeared from the mix compared to VHS where it sound is awsome.
To say im very dissapointed would be an understatement.

I know what you mean about the picture! I think they have "zoomed" in on it to make it 16:9 - it was originally filmed in 4:3 (see the video!). This really p***es me off - why not just release it as it was originally filmed (4:3)? Widescreen tv owners can then always zoom in themselves!

I noticed the same thing with the "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert" DVD - it was obviously filmed in 4:3, but the DVD had to be released in the 16:9 zoomed-in format! You could really tell it wasn`t filmed that way!

Thanks for the warning.

Sounds like a real balls up. Crap picture and Tony Levin down in the mix - I was just about to order that DVD but what`s the point!

I also bought the DVD thinking it would be an improvement on the Pal laserdisc. Nowhere near as good. I shall treasure the laserdisc and hope I dont get conned into buying dvds with supposedely great sounding DTS sound tracks.

Watched it again today all the way through. The audio mix is very different to the VHS which seemed fuller with a lot more bass emphasis. Also the drums to me sound muddier with a touch of the whacked cardboard box sound to the toms.
I dont know whether the sound is worse but it is very different, and as for the picture, still worse than my VHS copy.
Colours are more vibrant[Good word] but still grainy and compressed.
Has the picture suffered due to the inclusion of the three audio track options and the extras been squashed onto the single disc?.
Good show though.
