Credit Card Safety

Marky (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 1st January 2001, 20:07

I am about to make a couple of region 1 purchases for the first time from dvd boxoffice.com but am slightly concerned about having to give my credit card details over the web. Has anyone ever had any problems with purchases using there credit card details before?

Credit Card fraud does happen, but is blown out of proportion. I have been buying stuff on the web for a couple of years now and have not been stung, and I know quite a few people who also purchase of the web and they have not been stung either, but it does happen from time to time.

Do you have Online Banking and Visa statements?
If so just keep an eye on them every other day.

and check your bank covers fraud mine does.

Your CC company should (although check by calling them) cover you for fraud, however what they don`t cover is the company at the other end. So basically they protect you the consumer, but not the retailer against bogus card usage.

Even so, I would recommend you use an established and recommended retailer, DVDBO is a good start as they`ve been around for ages. Others are listed in other messages on this forum.

As a consumer you are well covered. As soon as you see a transaction
you dont recognise call the cc company and you shouild get the money
back striaght away. Its the retailer that loses out.

Hey look! Sheppy`s back!!

Anyways...I used DVDBoxoffice after Sheppy recommended it, and so far haven`t been stung!

All credit card companies must protect you against fraud by law, so just give them a ring before you purchse! :o)

Oh, and Sheppy, doesn`t DVD Reviewer get a commish from DVDBO?
If so..I linked direct to the site after your reccom.

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!
(and get that hack fixed!!)

I have used DVDBOXOFFICE for a year now and never had a problem, I started using them after VIDEONOW.COM took my money for a DVD but never delivered it. They say customs had it or it got lost in the post, i said I’m not interested what happened to it give me back my money or ship me another disc, at which point they stopped replying to my e-mails. I eventually got my money back from my cc company. Seems I’m not the only one to get stuffed by VIDEONOW.COM after I received several e-mail`s from others with similar experiences. So the moral of this story is stick with DVDBOXOFFICE their reliably and safe.

Hi, Im new to these forums. I think this site is great, a friend recommended it to me, thanks Lee.

I have had a terrible experience with VIDEONOW.COM. Firstly I ordered MULTIPLICITY a mainstream romantic comedy with Michael Keaton. A week or two later they charge my card and I did not recieve anything, not a sausage. I e-mailed them twice in the coming months and they replied both times saying that they were waiting for back orders. When I asked why I had already been charged, they just ignored that and continued to tell me how the discs would be despatched when they arrived. That was 4-5 months ago now. I tried sending more e-mails asking for a replacement or a refund but they just chose to ignore them. I haven`t tried to get the money back from my CC. I shall try soon.

As for VIDEONOW.COM, is there anything we can do. It seems to me that they are ripping everybody off and when people moan they just ignore their customers and rob their money.

Please Help!!

Kind Regards
Sandy

I have used DVD BOX OFFICE on numerous occasions, they are completely trust worthy and deliver an excellent service. Im sticking with companies I know and trust or ones recommended by trusted parties.

The only place that has ever stung me is VIDEONOW.COM. I wish I could deliver a mail bomb to these robbers. People who run fraudulent companies like these should be dealt with and severely punished by the law.

Video-now stung me for about 15 notes cos I ordered Road Trip, they took the money, never delivered so I cancelled the order and they said a refund would be coming shortly but it never has. This was about two and a half months ago.
Now it appears they`re going down the pan. If you log in to check your order status it says they`re not tkaing any more orders or answering calls or e-mails.
Which is nice.

Yeah, but the site is still up and running and shows all the new releases. Im thinking perhaps they are accepting new orders, but when customers check their order status they get that bogus message. Plus if they were not taking any more orders, don`t you think they would just close the site and set up a page which gave their customers a full apology and promised a full refund for all orders already taken. They are so dodgy it`s scary, I hope they did themselves too big a hole and someone, hopefully the law craps on them.

Cheers.
Sandy
