VENTING ANGER PART 1- I HATE DVD COVERS MADE OUT OF CARDBOARD!!!!

Here`s a little posting for everyone to vent out there hate on cardboard covers for DVDs.

It has been said before but nothing has been done about it.

My Exorcist now basically has patches of white on the cover where it was once black. The top flap of my brand new E.T. box set which cost me £40 odd, has now come away and is now sticking up. I don`t abuse the covers once I have them they are put away on my shelf. but these cheaply made covers. Why do they charge us the earth for them and yet they give us a cheaply made packaging.

I am dreading to think how long my Total Recall special edition is going to last as thats made out of cardboard too. Luckly the mars case which looks like a huge zit on Arnolds forehead is made out of tin.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why can`t they bring them out in a normal amaray casings?

Too right! Ever since they first came out, many DVDs have been packaged in frankly shoddy cases. Not great for a product that`s supposed to be the cutting edge of home entertainment, is it? You`re also right that it`s often the biggest releases that are amongst the worst culprits - I mean, they even brought the Matrix out in a crapjacket. Anyone else found the Office packaging to have all the DVD-retaining power of wet lettuce? Just be damn careful not to open the thing near any drain covers/similar DVD-devouring gaps, that`s all I`ll say...

And what the f*** was with X-Men???

They give us an amaray case BUT put it inside a crappy cardboard packaging. I wouldn`t mind so much, but the DVD info is only on the cardboard.

Warner Bros are the the worst though, no doubt about it.

Another one, The Godfather DVD collection. I admit, not the worst, but I thought I was going to snap my DVD`s trying to get them out.

Panic room and Eight Legged Freaks (R1) are other recent examples

Actually, sometimes I really like it: the Larwence of Arabia two disc set for example, and some other two disc sets (and I for one will be very angry if Entertainment in Video will bring out the 4 disc version of Fellowship of the Ring in anything other than a digipack).

And they are a bugger to replace, it took me ages to get a replacement for a damaged one, (a m8 got an AOL disk in one). Amaray cases are far easier to get hold of cheaply and in all sorts of flavours.

Hardly an ideal solution, but a solution of sorts: buy empty Amaray cases, and find a copy of the DVD jacket on the Net. Print it out on a high-quality printer, and Bob`s your uncle!

Of course, this depends on finding a high enough quality scan of a jacket that certainly won`t be exactly the same as the one you used to have, and being able to print it in high enough quality that it doesn`t offend you more than the original crapjacket!
