Page 1 of Escape from New York

I recently read(can`t remember where) that there is a special edition version being released in the near future.

Has anyone else heard anything about it?

It`s on the cards but has no date since the film was re-released on R1 late last year. You`d think a special edition of this would be a prioroty considering how major a cult flick it is even outside of Carpenter fans. I`d love to see that footage of Snakes ill fated hiest and underground train getaway that was cut from the opening, plus it must included the cool and hillarious commentary with Carpenter & Russel that was on the laserdisc.

There may be something holding them back from releasing this film again, for pretty much the same reason a lot of films got pulled or postponed this time last year.

Is it because Chinese Labour Day is just around the corner?

It did actually get re-released late last year (despite 9-11) but it had none of the previous extras that were on the laserdisc.

How stupid and inconsiderate of me. Of course they won`t release it yet after what happened last year. I apoligise for my ignorance.
It takes a while for things to sink in.

you may sleep well in knowing that a special edition for escape is to be released next year. as for the extras, im not entirely clear but all the atlanta robbery footage has been found and restored. last i heard carpenter had just finished re-editing it back together, putting its original score back and was in the process of dubbing the sequence.

new commentary`s (whether the russell and carpenter track will also be added is also to be seen - heres hoping!), and debra hill was boasting about some new extras which should keep the fans of escape very happy.

I for one can`t wait!

I`ve heard a few rumours that it`ll be out in 2003, with the robbery; here is one found on a JC fan site dated 25th July 2002:

Just wanted to alert you of the following, I have it on good authority that the Escape From New York SE is coming to R1 dvd in January-- INCLUDING the entire robbery/train escape sequence of which only a snippet was available for the SE LD.
