I`ve heard you guys talk about this film, what exactly is it about, it it a full on kung fu flick
Do you reckon it`s a good place to start for the uninitiated?
It seems to be about £10 delivered from DDD House, is it cheaper anywhere else?
Cheers
Urban
It`s not actually a kung fu film, in fact there`s virtually no fighting in it at all. Basic plot is a Shaolin student looking for a way to spread kung fu to the masses, and with the help of a disgraced former football player gets his Shaolin mates together and enters a tournament.
What you get when it really hots up is football matches topped with some mostly excellent special effects stunts...and heaps of laughs. Funniest film I`ve seen in ages, and stands up excellently to repeated viewings. Go buy.
i`ll second that
Why`s it so funny? Jokes, or is it physical comedy?
RE: Shaolin Soccer
Ahhhh Shaolin Soccer, my favourite film of the last 12 months. Why is it so funny you ask? I could try and describe some of the situations in the movie or explain to you why Stephen Chow is a living legend but it`d be almost impossible unless you`d actually seen the movie.
My only advice is to take a chance, go and buy it, when it arrives get some mates around, open up a keg, turn the volume up and you have my personal guarantee that you`ll enjoy every minute of it...
I have to agree. I bought it earlier in the year just on the strength of what I`d read on the internet and I wasn`t disappointed.
It`s a funny film if you like that kind of humour...plus, a nice refreshing change from the usual American dross we seem to get bombarded with.
Another vote for SS. Bought it on the fly for $9.99 in the US. Hugely impressed by the effects, the slapstick and the character-acting.
If only real football was like this... I`ve heard said it is a one-trick-pony, but I found much more entertainment in the film than this suggests.
The beauty of S.S. is that it has something for everybody - fantastic action, inventive special effects, hilarious characters, brilliant sight gags, philosophy, revenge, honour, loyalty, betrayal, romance, movie homages (rip-offs), terrible subtitles and, as if that weren`t enough, Shaolin singing and the indelible image of Iron Head putting another man`s underpants on his head. What more could you ask for?
