Seen alot of these new releases on r4 quite alot cheaper than there r1 or r2 counterparts, but i have only ever bought r1 and r2 d.v.d,s.
so is there a diffrence in the quality, sound picture, or extras......?

Spidey

Generally, R4s are uncut and same quality as R2 (i.e. PAL). Gotta be careful with some of the cheapies though - can be 4:3 pan & scam and not Widescreen e.g. Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa etc. I`ve a lot of R4s from Ezydvd, devoteddvd, Chaosmusic & DVDcrave. Some R4s are dual region i.e. R4/R2 and so will play on non-hacked players e.g. Sonys.

Check `em out on http://www.michaeldvd.com.au - a great site for R2/R4 disk comparisons or just technical lists for current-ish DVDs

Yeah, the distributor is sometimes different from the R2, and while that generally means no snapper cases, you can get stiffed for extras (or pan & scan - IIRC, they onlt got Harry P on P&S!!) - I recently got Oh Brother Where Art Thou R4, and while I`m generally not TOO bothered about extras, this came with zilch. As recommended above, MichaelsDVD is a good place to check which version is best. Also, they are sometimes even further behind than us when it comes to new releases.

Having said that, I`m a fan - some really good sites for supplies - my fave is http://www.devoted.com.au http://www.ezydvd.com.au also good.

Some of the big R4 releases are the same as R1 or R2 or even better. For example, R4: Speed SE has DTS, like R2 (unlike R1), but can be cheaper. I just bought a few copies from Devoted with free shipping which works out to £12 each!

Transfer quality is the same since it`s PAL so I`ve no complaints with the multitude of discs I`ve bought from Ezy or Devoted. No snapper cases either so Training Day, Swordfish etc have nice Amaray cases. A plus in my book. :-)

Plus if you`re a Matrix fan, the R4 Matrix has an audio commentary, isolated score with commentary and all the extras on the R2 disc, it also features quite a lot of headbutting.

Although the Region 1 disc also has this, but it`s in NTSC, and, if I`m not mistaken it`s also in a snapper case like the R2.
The R4 is in an Amaray case.
And it`s cheaper.
