Virgin media (NTL) retention offer

tartandude (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 20th March 2007, 13:20

Hello.
For most of last year I was fortunate to enjoy the retention offer from NTL cutting the cost of my 10Meg broad band from £35 to £17.50/month. Which could be got simply by asking for it (every three months).

I phoned up in January of this year and was told it had be re-applied but my February bill showed it was no longer in place. I again called up and was told that as they had changed to Virgin media they no longer did the retention offer but would credit me for the February bill as I had been mis-informed.
I tried the old "well I`ll have to consider leaving then as other ISPs are offering up to 8Meg for much less". But the chap informed me that Broad band in my area via BT would only give me up to 3Meg (True).

Anyhow, I have just phoned up and had the retention offer reapplied. Its there (I believe) for anyone who has 10Meg cable from Virgin just by asking. :)

i just spent about 20 mins waiting to be put thru for this offer. for some reason it wasn`t available in my area (medway, kent) but i did get my package reduced from £58 to £35 AND an upgrade to the free calls in evening and weekends.

seems a good time to call them up!! thanks for the tipoff.

I think it`s an offer to keep (retain) you as a customer if you imply you might cancel with them & go elsewhere. But I might be wrong.

I phoned Customer Services (15 minute wait :o ) last night to upgrade from 2mb to 10mb and asked what deals they had

Gave me 2 options

Pay £27 a month for 12 months or

£17.50 for 3 months

Opted for No. 2 :D

Will ring back in 3 months to get them to extend it

PS Ring CS not retentions

I got the 10Mb (3 months @ £17.50, keep calling back to have it re-applied) on Saturday, no problem at all.

The girl told me that it was going to 20Mb from next month (but increasing in price by £2/month)

Got NTL/Virgin coming with a new modem this Saturday as the old one (older than God`s dog !) can`t handle 10Mb.

I`m currently paying £33.50 for XL broadband, L TV and standard telephone, which I`m told is a good deal. I have also been told that as I`m on a fixed price deal I won`t have the £2 charge applied for the 20 meg service in May. If I do they can expect another phone call because I refuse to pay for an upgrade I didn`t request, especially since my service rarely hits the 10 meg speeds and the TV pic quality has gone to s*** since my last engineer visit.
