2001 2-disk set at Ezy

Roger James (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 16th September 2001, 11:13

Has anyone, perchance, who ordered this set at Ezy received their copies? I`ve sent two e-mails now without reply (It`s not like them!), as they are not updating their website regarding this film. It only states that the film has been delayed, and that all current orders will be honoured. However I did get a response over 2 weeks ago that they expected the film in within a week. Since then, nothing! Anybody else awaiting this?

Roger,

Have been waiting for this myself, and got this reply a week after I sent an email asking what was up..here it is pasted in full..sounds like a bit of a balls-up to me..and rather too many "at this stages" and "unfortunately"...all a bit unfortunate really :-)

Hi Alan

I apologise if you have not had a reply from us but I passed your
query onto another colleague so I am disappointed if they have not replied.
With regard to 2001: A Space Odyssey, unfortunately this particular
title has become an absolute nightmare for Warner Home Video. Initially
there was a problem with the limited edition booklet and senitype having been damaged with a watermark, so all had to be re-printed. Unfortunately some of these elements had to be sourced from overseas, hence the delay. It is now becoming apparent that some retailers who received an early shipment of this disc are returning them, as they had the incorrect disc in the set also !!!

At this stage, they hope to have the problem rectified soon but they
are unable to give us an exact date at this stage.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your
patience.

Regards
Toni

Alan, i`ve just received an almost identical reply, however in mine Toni says she has searched all incoming messages and can`t find my previous e-mail! I have to say that up until now Ezy`s service has been exemplary, and they are still promising that all pre-orders will be honoured, so we will just have to wait and see. I think they will come up with the goods, but the only thing that worries me is that if they don`t, it will probably be too late to order elsewhere. Still i`m looking forward to getting it, as when I lived in London in 1968 I went to see this one no less than eight times! (Yes........I know it`s sad!).

Did you gain any extra insight into the meaning? :)

London in 1968 - shouldn`t you have been taking mind altering drugs and getting laid instead of visiting the cinema?

perhaps he was doing all three at the same time. I, however, was only 4 and must have been stoned or drunk most of the time as I can`t remember much about those years.

Without wishing to sound even more sad, or even pompous, I never had a problem with the "meaning" of this one. I always thought that it was pretty clear as long as you used even half your brain! I`ve read a lot about the film over the intervening years, and have several books on it. I noted with great amusement that on it`s very first screening Rock Hudson was heard to say "Can anyone please tell me what the hell that was about?". A statement that says more about Rock Hudson than Stanley Kubrick!! I remain a sad git to this day!

I always thought Mel Brooks had the right idea with the monkeys...as it were.

Alan, to be honest, if it was left to Rock Hudson he probably would have spanked them.....................so to speak! (Sorry Clayts).

Interesting comments about Ezy. I have had the same story from them in the past regarding not being able to find my emails.

Also, last week they sent me the Birdcage and the Shining erroneously, they had sent me the Birdcage about 6 months ago and I had cancelled the Shining after they had advised that it was out of stock.

They`ve guaranteed to reimburse my card and postage costs for returning the disks, but I`m a little concerned...
