They also have the Archos XS202S 20Gb for £149, which has a colour screen, again i have no idea how good or bad these are.

Ok - treated myself and bought the `s` version (see above post) today. It`s a wicked piece of kit, absolutly no complaints so far (although I`ve only been playing around with it this evening).

Just to clarify - the `s` version is the latest model - apparantly it differs in that it`s black, and slightly slimmer. Otherwise no differences to the older type. it doesn`t have a colour screen though, it`s that `blue` shade you get on some mobile phones.

Well pleased.

Up to 17 hours.
So probably around 14-16 hrs in real usage.

I`ve had the XS200 for a year or so now and its great. Sound quailty is fine. I think its probably still the smallest 20gb player ou can get (except the 202s that is a little thinner).

It doesn`t have loads of whizzy extra features... and the user interface isn`t as intuitive or easy as an apple... but if you can cope with setting a video recorder without videoplus then it should be fine. Might be a bit fiddly to buy for your mum though... ;-)

(note: compared to the 200 the 202 just increases the battery life and adds a couple of minor improvmements, and the 202s just makes it a mm or so thinner and adds one or two other minor improvements.. but the differences are minimal). www.archos.com
