RE: Biggest Pain In the Neck Award

Hey - someone once told me about some free o2 simcards...

eeerm - anyone want a couple of hundred?... buyer collects? ;)

RE: Archos Gmini XS202 Digital Audio 20 gb MP3 Player £119

Ok - treated myself and bought the `s` version (see above post) today. It`s a wicked piece of kit, absolutly no complaints so far (although I`ve only been playing around with it this evening).

Just to clarify - the `s` version is the latest model - apparantly it differs in that it`s black, and slightly slimmer. Otherwise no differences to the older type. it doesn`t have a colour screen though, it`s that `blue` shade you get on some mobile phones.

Well pleased.

RE: Possible free pen drive from Microsoft? SIZE unknown?

Thanks for that - yep, although the small print says US only, it does give a drop down menu including the UK, and also lets you click on your county.

Just a matter of waiting now.

RE: FREE CHOCOLATE !? free chocolate ?!?!?!?!

RE: Free Gillette razor.....

Where`s me bloomin` razor?

RE: free Virgin Mobile SIM with £5 free airtime - apply before 11.59pm on 03/02/06

Only available to applicants with a current Virgin number?

RE: 256Mb MP3 Player £9.97

Spoke to a pal in a forum the other day who has got one and he also said battery life was poor.

Just a point - I`ve got a run of the mill mp3 player which works fine, but when I try and play the `Chris Moyles Podcast` (BBC) I get an `invalid file format` error. Anyone else get this? (apologies for the thread drift).

RE: Pentax optio s55 £150 @ Booots £50 cheaper than jessops

I`ve got an old 2 MP Optio which is superb, and I`ve still no plans to change it.

Quote:
btw I heard the booots warranty is gr8 as they replace items rather than repair.

A word of caution - my daughter bought a Nikon last Christmas - it failed in the summer. Initially they would not replace it as the model was no longer available, but when we kicked off in the shop after there was still no sign of it being returned from the repair centre after two months, they gave us a replacement - the next model up, which was £60 more than she paid at Christmas.

RE: DVD Player £19.99 at Sainsburys

About a dozen on display at Keighley today.

(Incidentally, we got a cheap and cheerful DVD player from our local Safeway the other week, the day ir reopened as a co-op. £14.99. Never heard of the brand, but working just fine in the bedroom!).

RE: FREE LIMITED EDITION WALLACE AND GROMIT MUG WITH PG TIPS!!

We got one no problem from ASDA on Wednesday (where they were going fast), but a visit to a large sainsbury`s today was unsuccessful.

RE: Walkers crisps Ipod giveaway (every 5 mins)

We used three PC`s to punch in 70 codes last night within about 40 minutes. They didnt go into a draw until after 05:00 for some reason, came down this morning to 69 losing emails and one winner!

RE: Walkers crisps Ipod giveaway (every 5 mins)

S*d that then - the kids have been saving the packets up so dad can do a 03:00 stint one night. Not much point by the looks of it.

RE: Uncapped broadband bargain - early warning!

I applied for my upgrade on Wednesday and asked the forum guys on Friday if it could be sorted for the weekend - and they did it.

Rikki - your comments dont surprise me as I`m a regular visitor to the forums - however I can only speak as I find and if anything untoward does happen, I`m nearly out of contract so I`ll move elsewhere (they are just introducing MAC migration).

Uncapped broadband bargain - early warning!

Existing broadband customers of Tiscali are now being offered (subject to the usual line capabilities etc) 1MB UNLIMITED (ie uncapped) at £15.99 per month, and 2MB unlimited at £17.99. I understand this is to be rolled out to new customers within a month or so. I`ve gone for the 1 meg, and so far so good. (any existing users here can go to the `members area` and upgrade there).

Really heavy users of P2P may wish to read the new fair usage terms (available on the main site) - but essentially unless you regularly P2P on weekend afternoons and weekday evenings, the service really does look unlimited.

Quote:
A very small number of customers use Peer to Peer or file sharing software, which constantly sends and receives video and other very large files, throughout the day. This type of activity uses a lot of bandwidth and can significantly reduce the speed at which other customers can access the internet during peak hours. Approximately 1% of customers use more than 30% of the available bandwidth during peak hours. We don`t believe this is fair to the vast majority of our customers.

This fair usage policy automatically identifies the very small number of extremely heavy users and manages their bandwidth only during peak hours (being 6pm to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 12pm to 4pm on weekends and bank holidays), to protect the service for all our other customers. Outside peak hours, the use of the internet by these heavy users is unaffected.

We think this is the fairest approach. It protects the quality of service for the vast majority of our customers when they most use the service, while at the same time allowing the extremely heavy users to continue to send and receive without restriction outside of peak hours.

Tiscali have had their knockers (deservedly so too) but I`ve had my service since January with just a couple of issues which were quickly sorted (by the guys in the forums - forget the official helpline).

Hope this helps someone.

RE: 2-way radios - £8.73!!!!!

Well, I kicked off in the Guiseley store but they were`nt having any of it. Like others, reserved earlier this week (until today). Called in having checked the link by the OP first - damn, item not now found - wish I`d printed it out earlier! Was prepared for a fight after this thread and after a couple of conversations with the manager, staff informed me firstly `Well, perhaps it was a web only offer` - oh yeah, well why did it say that the item wasn`t available online, and had to be collected from a store then? Girlie scuttles off for a another word, comes back `well, sorry, did you notice that it said on the webpage that the price charged would be that in force on the collection date? Expressed my disgust and left. I wasn`t particularly bothered for these radios, it just seemed to be one of those unmissable things. I would have been tempted to take things further otherwise.

edit to say that bloomin` ad has nothing to do with me!

RE: 50 DVD-R spindle packs...£9.01 from Staples!!! - Now BOGOF!

Thanks OP. Leeds Crown Point branch was just setting up their POS at 09:30 this morning at the front of the store, -R only evident. BOGOF no problem at the till.

Don`t think they will last long. Now I`ve just got to find some stuff to write to them all!

RE: GPS Speed Camera Detector under £80 at Woolies

Hmmm - what have I started....?

This was not intended to be a pro / anti speed camera thread. I drive quite a lot professionally and there are times when visiting a new town when I am trying to find my way / keep to the speed limit / establish what the speed limit it - and therefore keep my licence, job, and my family fed. Trust me, it`s not easy, and anything that will help is a bonus.

Generally, I always intend to drive within, or marginally (ie 10% max) over the speed limit but we can all make mistakes, and I`m big enough to admit that.

RE: GPS Speed Camera Detector under £80 at Woolies

Even with my dodgy windscreen I`ve only lost signal once for about a minute. But yes, it does pick up cameras on the opposite carriageway - small price to pay I think when my bosses Road Angel cost him three hundred quid and it does in essence the same thing.

I think you might be OK to return to woolies but I suggest you don`t register it online until you are happy with it.

GPS Speed Camera Detector under £80 at Woolies

It`s been around for a few weeks but I finally invested in one this week. Works a treat. Uses GPS technology to determine your car`s actual position in relation to a database of FIXED (not mobile or temporary) speed cameras. It even knows how fast you are going so will alert you if you are entering a `risk` zone too fast. Free database updates supplied for a year. As it`s GPS based it`s not illegal.

Just check your car doesnt have an `Athermic` windscreen. Mine (Vauxhall Zafira) does and I have to position the unit close to the quarter window for it to work. The website has a list of vehicles affected.
