I was talking to Sky 2 weeks ago before I bought a Sony LCD TV.
Sky a long way off with the HD, for example next year the are expecting to broadcast the World Cup and 2 movie channels in HD. Therefore after the World Cup you are left with 2 channels with HD.
When I bought my Sony after comparing others tv`s the sales associate virtually said the same thing without any prompting.
Thats why I bought the Sony based on quality etc it is not HD ready, and if it does take off quicker then I guess I made wrong decision and will go and buy another set.

Sure Sky might take their sweet time rolling out HD broadcasting, but you`re forgetting the forthcoming launch of Blu-ray, HD-DVD and HD console gaming with the xbox 360 & ps3.

My advice is you should consider reading the avforums rather than taking the advice of a sale associate when choosing your replacement purchase. i.e not a Sony.

Yeah, I wouldn`t worry about the 435XDE not meeting the mark, its got excellent reviews from pretty much everyone, its got HDMI with HDCP, so its ticked the box on the hi-def requirements as far as Sky are concerned. Digital Terrestrial Tuner, scarts galore and a damn nice picture to boot... DVD`s look amazing on them

I`ve been drooling over one for a while now, maybe when I`ve finished the decorating and carpets... of course by then I`m sure there will be something bigger and better round the corner, but theres always something bigger and better round the corner, you have to buy this stuff sometimes and I`d say you`ve picked one of the top 3 tellies on the market at the moment.

The Aldi advert is displaying the HD Ready logo, which according to the requirements below would suggest it can do 720p at 50Hz.

Requirements for the label "HD ready"
A display device has to cover the following requirements to be awarded the label "HD ready":
1. Display, display engine - The minimum native resolution of the display (e.g. LCD, PDP) or display engine (e.g. DLP) is 720 physical lines in wide aspect ratio.

2. Video Interfaces
* The display device accepts HD input via: Analogue YPbPr1; and DVI or HDMI

* HD capable inputs accept the following HD video formats: 1280x720 @ 50 and 60Hz progressive ("720p"), and 1920x1080 @ 50 and 60Hz interlaced ("1080i")

* The DVI or HDMI input supports content protection (HDCP)."
