26" LCD Telly - £444 at Staples

mutantstargoat (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 27th April 2005, 21:07

From Thursday 28th April Staples will be selling a 26" LCD TV for £444 (previously £599). Being sold under the brand name Phocus. No other details i`m afraid, other than they are very limited stock (max 2 or 3 per store at best). Also some decent discounts on some digital camera`s. Saw these deals going out tonight for tomorrow morning in my local store. Will post again if I get more info. :)

Thanks for the heads up. Did some digging, apparantly, the contrast is not so good - though the owners still liked it. I might wander round at 8am tomorrow to see if there`s one in the Staples near me!
It`s got DVI, VGA and 3 Scarts. And does picture in picture. 1280x768, which is 15:9 but someone said that`s normal and they have non-square pixels.

Seen this in my local Staples, running as a display for XP. Looks a little bit (understandably) low defination close up (can`t stand far enough away without getting a shelf in my back).

What its like with a TV picture especially sports is anyones guess!

But I dont seem to hear many cries of "I bought one!" on these forums.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

Just had a look around and it seems they are quite common on the continent. The links below give a bit more info. I think it is an ugly beast, but opinions will differ. It is cheap but I would go for the Sonix at Sainsburys for another £50. Lots of positive feedbackon that one. It seems that the Phocus has 3 Scarts but no component input.

http://www.phocuselectronics.com - No real info here other than confirmation that the sets come out of Turkey along with 30% of European TVs.

http://www.cvm.dk/product_info.php/products_id/193 - Danish site with the spec (assuming it is same TV)

And finally, someone flogging one on eBay. (Not a bargain compared to Staples though)

xxxxxx i notice that turkey are making alot of these tv,s i have had problems with my jvc widescreen and had to ring them ,they told me that they were made in turkey to. so it seems that tv,s that are made out there are not up to much. they have agreed that after 2 sets going up the creek, within 14 month ,they are now sending me a 28 inch flat screen which is made in scotland .lets hope that its a good en.

shockingly bad... you can take it back within two weeks though!!!

Just as well... ended up going to comet and buying a Sagem HD-L27 High-Definition Tv a bit pricier at £999... but hell i am worth it :/

I take it this telly is rubbish then?

What was wrong with it?
